We had a plastic mailbox that fit over the 4x4 post.It got hit by a truck mirror, and the mailbox section snapped right off.My first thought was to use a lot of duct tape, but the wife nixed that idea. The post was still there, but when we just added a new mailbox, it was only 26 inches high. The mail lady would not leave any mail because regulations required the mailbox to be 41 to 45 inches high.We purchased the extender bracket, added a 17 inch 4x4 post , and now the mailbox is 43 inches high.Problem solved.

I used this to reinforce my mailbox post after some bratty teenagers played mailbox baseball on my street. The wood split right where the bracket was attached to it, so I actually used these horizontally to re-attach the wood bracket firmly to the post. It's been in place for a few weeks now, seems to be holding very well. (I filled the largest crack with outdoor wood glue also.)

This kit helped me repair my mailbox post that my neighbor ran over when he was running over my trash cans. The post broke in a vertical crack splitting the post in the middle. This kit allows for cutting a new section of 4X4 post to install a replacement section without having to dig up the concrete footing and existing post. I was preparing to do the replacement section when I realized that these extenders can also repair my exact broken post by placing the two brackets opposite each other and compensating for the vertical break. I also was able to put a few additional long deck screws on the non metal sides. This did the job and the kit is easy to install. It turns out this kit is more flexible than advertised in application. It doesn't just have to be a 4x4 post. Since there are two pieces it can work on 4x6 or 2x4 o4 4x8, just install on the 4" dimension side as that is obviously the only side it will fit. The only way I see this not being compatible is if it needs to secure two adjacent sides at the same level instead of opposite sides. The reason being that the brackets have radius edges on the vertical sides that wrap around the post corners slightly at about 1/4". The brackets have what I'll call a bite plate, for lack of a better term, in the middle that needs to be hammered into the side of the post or alternately sandwiched in between a 90 degree cut off old post and mating to a 90 degree surface of the new post replacement section. This is a good kit if your repair is compatible. Most importantly the wood you are salvaging should be good not dry rotted wood. It can repair a crack to salvage the whole existing post and it can repair cutting out a damaged bad section and replacing with new on top of the existing good wood section without having to dig and repour concrete and level.
