I was hesitant to mess with my spokes so I approached the task very gingerly. I watched a YouTube video. The takeaways were 1) It's NOT righty-tighty, it's lefty-tighty, and 2) Loosen first (the ones that need loosening), then tighten (likewise), and 3) go easy, like 30 degree increments. The tool itself had a slight burr running along the outside edge of the slots, so I sanded them smooth. But it's a great tool. My bike with steel wheels didn't need much adjusting, but my 2 bikes with aluminum wheels benefited a lot.

OK back up tool.Actually way too heavy 62g awkward to true rims. Also too bulky especially 48 spoke rims. The walls are extremely thick, NO need to worry about spreading/ stretching the channel.VS the Park #2 standard 16g***** drilled out the center 1/2" dropped weight too 56g. This successfully balanced the weight ratio. Also provides a stable finger guide.

The spokes on my bike were very loose and the wheel was way out of alignment.I have never re-aligned a bicycle wheel before. But the bike repair shop near me didn't even bother answering their phone, so I was frustrated and ordered this spoke wrench so I could do the job myself.I read some internet articles and watched some videos on how to do spoke alignment. The first time I spent about 1/2 hour and got the wheel reasonably straight. It didn't wobble from side to side. I tried out the bike and it was fine for about 2 days. Then the wheel started wobbling once again because some spokes had come loose. So I did it again and the same thing happened after a couple of days. Then I found out what I was doing wrong -- I was not getting the spokes tight enough! Not even close. So finally I got them all really tight. Months later the wheel is still fine.My advice if you have never done this wheel alignment before is to check a known good wheel and get a feel for how tight the spokes need to be. Otherwise they could come loose just by riding your bike.

The tool seems good enough but I hade expected that sharp grades would have been removed after it came out of the mold

Bought this to replace my favourite spoke key which had died. Works well and is sturdy enough to deal with the dreadful (old, knackered and well on the way to being rusted up - oil every nipple) wheels that I am asked to true. It's worth paying the extra money for such a sturdy tool
