I am returning this book because it says it is for KIDS but it is really for toddlers and young children. I am looking for patterns for 6-10 year olds. If I needed patterns for younger children, this book has some very cute items to knit

I know I will probably get shot down in flames for this review, but so be it. I suppose this could be 2-3 star knitting book if you have girls.(even then I didn't think the items in the pictures were appealing enough to make me run for my yarn and needles A bit old fashioned I thought)Yes, if you have girls there's plenty to knit! It's pretty obvious that the designers that produced this book of the patterns have girls. I found one pattern for a boy that I would consider nice enough to knit for my grandson, it is lovely.I'm afraid as I have no girls to knit for this was a bit of a waste of money for me really. There is such a dearth of patterns for boys unless you're looking for a cable sweater, or a cable cardigan, and these can become tedious after a while. I even adapted a recent pattern I found, because a lovely yarn I had bought had no patterns for boys again. The patterns for that yarn were all for girls. (Not from this book I might add)Sorry but a book basically pitched for parents of girls, no balance towards people who happen to have boys. It would have been a lot better if they had allowed people to buy the boys pattern separately, and just kept this as a knitting book with patterns for girls. I now have at least 29 patterns I've no use for!!Oh and the sizes to me just don't make sense when they translate them from US to UK measurements in this book, what child of the ages given here have a 32" chest. My grandson is 6yrs and has around a 24-26"American = 2T 4T 6 These are the sizes givenTranslate into 28" 32" 35"What child of 18-24 (i.e. 2T = Toddler) months do you know has a 28" chest??? I know babies grow very quickly and vary in what they need size wise but????I was disappointed with this book

I was glad to find that I was able to find vol 1 of paintbox knits, I had the second vol and have made several items from it. I reviewed the book I purchased and found it too had several items that I will enjoy making for my granddaughers.

I ordered Paintbox Knits and More Paintbox Knits at the same time and was happy with both books. I had seen one of the books and knew what I was getting, so was not supprised at the beautiful children's clothes. The authors are talented and I like the books very much

Kids' sizes are harder to find in knitting patterns than babies. (and who cares if it doesn't fit the baby? Too big and just waitaminnit, that baby will swell amazingly to fit any sweater.) This is not the case with kids; they grow a bit slower, they are fussy about their clothes and the fit. So this is a useful book.It has patterns for sweaters that can be used for either boys or girls, even has pants. The most useful section is on blocking and finishing and necklines. Necklines are tough; kids have bigger heads in relation to their bodies so it is well to understand how to fit a neck opening on kids.I give the book 4 stars out of 5 because it specifies a lot of acrylic type yarns. (To be fair, the book also has some cotton as well.) If you read Elizabeth Zimmerman, she claims wool is better for kids even though it needs hand washing and that the best wool probably won't itch. If you like machine washing, then acrylic is your fiber. If you want extreme warmth, wool is better, and you can always substitute a wool yarn of equal weight to the ones specified in the patterns.Oh, there's also a bit about charting your own designs, which is handy for people who want to knit HP sweaters and the like. Not a bad reference if you knit for your children, grandchildren or children of friends--or for charity, too.
