I was hoping to get my friend who loves to knit a fun and whimsical pattern book for Christmas. It turns out she loves Stephanie Dosen's work and already had this book. Luckily the seller was extremely kind and allowed me to return for a refund. However, I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for fairy tale/woodland creature like knitting patterns. Some of the knit in this book, and some of my personal favorites, include: That a Deer with Little Antlers Hat, Tiny Violet Hand Puff, Meow Mitts, Faerie Wings, Dragon Watcher's Hood, Seedpod Purse, Wildflower Crown, The Changeling Collar and many more. This book is incredibly cute and according to my friend really gives good directions and provides a comprehensive list of materials for creating the garments.

Fantastico, un sacco di spunti, molto semplice da seguire! Il fatto che sia scritto in inglese non da grossi problemi, le abbreviazioni sono ben spiegate e son sempre le stesse!

Everyone needs something whimsical in their knitting library (well at least I do). These knits are gorgeous and different and totally inspirational. After a quick read through, instructions look pretty clear. The problem - everything is so beautiful, I want to make it all. After much debating, I think I'll begin with the fawn poncho (though the meow mitts might have something to say about this). If you are looking for "normal", everyday knits, this is not the book for you. Knits are fairy-tale style with an assortment of scarves, hoods, sweaters, hats, leg warmers, mittens and more. These are, of course, a very unique style so I'd recommend checking out the pattern listings on ravelry before purchasing or going to the author's blog Tiny Owl Knits.

There are a lot of theme knit pattern books out there and most of them are not very good, but this one is impressive in the quality of the patterns and the cohesiveness of the theme.Stephanie Dosen is no luddite that is for sure, She covers everything from cables, to intarsia, reversible knit and felting and a beautifully detailed imagination. The designs are very well developed, have clarity and she not only has provided a stitch dictionary but a very useful yarn information chart as well. Which is great because her eye for color, particularly natural colors that would actually appear in nature is acute. She also offers side notes, observation, advice and suggestions for alterations. When an author writes as tho' she is right there with you this is always a nice personal touch. And as I mentioned before cohesive. Every single pattern in here pertains to or is influenced by the forest. Yes this will probably be on no use to an urbanite, but I'm from Wyoming and I can think of somebody I would make most of these for. The nice thing about this collection is that there really is a nice variety of items that would stretch nicely over many age groups. This is a plus as most theme pattern books are really geared towards teens or young adults. The bear hoodie in here would be just a nice for a grandmother as it would a child. The Garden Gate and Ivy cowl and the Changling collar are rather sophisticated and geared more towards an adult. And yes there are whimsical pieces in here clearly for the younger set: Fairy wings, headbands and the tiny violet hand poof would be adorable on a child. The book as a whole is a work of art really. The pictures, layout, paper quality and the decorative edging all give it an air of beauty, whimsy and craftmanship. A true labor of love.

I have loved Stephanie Dosen's work ever since I saw her work on Ravelry a few years ago. This book has been a long time wish of mine and I am so happy she finally published a book with some of her patterns in it.Now while it has several patterns I dearly love (like the Deer Hat With Antlers), I fell she should have put some other patterns in this book that she didn't (so I am hoping another book is in the works). I would have loved to have had Beekeeper's Quilt, The Woodsy Association, Forget-Me-Not, Gypsy Petticoat, or Forest and Frill in this book (but alas, they are not here). It's just that for the number of patterns I would like to knit from this beautiful creator, I can't really afford to spend 5-7 bucks per pattern, so this collection of her works for about 20 bucks (that I can take with me anywhere), was a godsend. I just really hope she makes another collection and puts some of the aforementioned patterns in it.Other than that, I am still in love with this book. The patterns are whimsical and cute. Super playful. I just have an absolute blast knitting her stuff (I am in the middle of knitting my own Beekeeper's Quilt, as a matter of fact). I get compliments all the time on my version of her Deer with Antlers hat (seen on the cover) and man, I just really, really love her work.So if you read this Ms. Dosen, please, please, please think about putting out another collection of your work. It's amazingly fun and cute and I have a blast with your knitting patterns. :)

I first came across Stephanie Dosen through her blog Tiny Owl Knits [...] which I heartily recommend if you want to get a taste of her style. I was delighted when she published this book and spent some of my birthday amazon voucher on it.Stephanie has a very chatty and enthusiastic style and not only are her designs stunning, but the patterns and instructions are easy to follow. I would have liked to see some kind of alternative yarn information given as on occasion I have had problems sourcing the exact yarns she recommends with the patterns but not many books do this and as I'm quite capable of looking things up on the internet and doing my own weight and yardage comparisons this wasn't enough for me to give less than 5 stars. Someone new to knitting might not be quite so au fait but the information is out there. Newbies just be aware that yardage/metreage is just as important to note as tension, yarn weight and needle size when sourcing alternatives!I can't say I'll be making every pattern in the book (don't quite see myself in fairy wings!) but I will be making enough to more than justify the cost of the book. I'm starting with Mr Fox Stole My Heart because I fell in love with this when I first saw it on her blog, but if you want something smaller or simpler then there is plenty of choice. To be honest I wouldn't say this was a book for beginners simply because most of the patterns will require a certain amount of experience but there is a handy experience level indicated with each pattern so you can see how difficult or easy you may find it. For inspiration, though, this book can't be faulted and anyone who either likes a fun knit for themselves or other adults, or has children or teenagers to knit for, I don't think you can go wrong.

It has arrived (a day early! WEEEEE!) and let me tell you just how excited I am. About this much: ✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸¸.✶*¨`*.✫*¨*.¸ (I may have exploded in a glitter bomb...)I have been a fan of Stephanie's patterns for many years and found a few familiar patterns in this book. Some of them I already knitted up several times over the last few years.I tend to print out the patterns that I previously purchased in a pdf format, but I also tend to lose those papers. And since I knit some of these lovies over and over (trust me, everyone will want one!), I won't have to worry anymore that I will lose my paper print in the book shelf, accidentally throw it into the garbage or find crayon drawings on Stephanie's face, thanks to my children. No more wasted paper out of my printer! YAYYou will find a whole bunch of brand new patterns and while I paged through the book I let out several squeals of happiness. I am so excited that I don't even know which one I will knit up first. What I do know is that I am going to order more wool. Now (No, that's not really considered hoarding).Stephanie's patterns are absolutely enchanting. The pieces I have knitted over the past years are wonderful conversation starters and I love to put a smile on people's faces when I wear my Mr Fox {stole my heart} stole or my little deer hat. How can one not smile when you see someone with a fox stole and realize that no real fox had to die for this cuteness. If you love magical creatures, if you enjoy long walks through the woods, if you are actually a fairie and disguise yourself as a human.... then you need to buy this book! If you do not like magical creatures or long walks in the woods, then this book can help you!
