Brass Pop-up head sprinklers are quite common in systems from 20 or more years ago. These systems are still very serviceable, and the pop-up head is an excellent way to keep them in good shape. The version with pop-up action gives an extra inch or so of spray height which makes it more suitable for grass, while a traditional flush head is more common in above-ground applications such as shrubs and flowerbeds. The brass nozzle includes an adjustment screw which allow you to reduce the spray pattern down to 75% of its maximum radius of 15 ft. Pop-up heads have 1/2-in. female pipe threads (FPT) and you will typically mount them on a 1/2-in. male pipe thread (MPT) rigid PVC or cut-off riser. The Pop-up head wrench is an accessory that makes it simple to remove and install heads without extensive digging. The Pop-up head nozzle is easy to replace with a brass head spray nozzle with male threads.

Works perfectly. I cannot find these now at the big box stores (in California), apparently they are old fashioned. I can't replace my whole 1970's era sprinkler system with water wise plastic pop ups any time soon, so I hope they keep making these!

You can't easily buy the metal sprinklers in California. Lucky that Amazon has them.

I'm giving this 3 stars for a couple of reasons.These have no springs so water pressure is the only thing that pops them up and gravity is the only thing that pulls them back in. For my yard they haven't worked well.I have lower than average water pressure and these heads don't pop up every time. If they are not installed perfectly vertical the head doesn't retract back into the ground. The rubber seal will rub on the pipe preventing the head from retracting.Also, I have the brass and plastic versions of these sprinkler heads. I've learned that they break the same when the lawnmower hits them. I would suggest buying the plastic version and saving money. They work the same.
