About this item

  • US SHELBY P-51 CAN OPENERS
  • STAINLESS STEEL - Our US Shelby P-51 Can Openers are made from Stainless Steel and have been manufactured exactly to the US Shelby Government Issued specifications
  • 2 INCHES LONG - The P-51 can openers are 2 inches long have a hole for a key ring or ball chain and have a sharp blade to puncture and open normal sized food cans.
  • STRONG & LIGHTWEIGHT - The P-51 design makes them perfect for backpacking, travel, hiking and bug out bags
  • HOW TO USE - 1. Open blade 2. Place the notch of the P-51 on the rim of the can with the blade inside the rim 3. Twist the P-51 down so that the blade punctures the lid of the can 4. Repeat twisting while turning the can 5. Be careful removing the lid. The lid will be sharp

The P-51 can opener is a great survival tool with many uses. The P-51 is 2 long, slightly longer than the original P-38, so it's easier to open cans. It folds to a small size. It also can be used as a cutting edge, screw driver, seam ripper, groove cleaner, etc. This 4-pack of P-51 Can Openers allows you to keep one in all the locations you want - the kitchen, hunting pack, camper, back pack, tackle box, tool box, etc.

These are good. I had an old one of different brand which was great, but I lose it occasionally due to its small size, so I wanted to have more on hand. Gave some away too. Works well, is sturdy and sharp. Will buy again if needed.

I keep these in my camping/bugout bag/truck just in case. Have you tried to open a can without a can opener? You CAN't. I read you can use the spine as a fire striker, too, but I haven't tried it yet. Might need to be ground down to give it a nice 90 degree angle.

I love these can openers. They are small and very easy to use, just like we had in the Armed Forces in the old days. I can open a can before you can say your name, with one of these

One for the house, one for the bag, one for the emergency kit, one for the man-purse.These things are better than any can opener I used in years, and they're made of good materials.Oh and they're useful tools in other purposes too.

Use these as a reliable back up when all the useless can openers we buy inevitably stop working.

I used these in the military, they always work, unlike the modern openers.

I bought these on the sole assumption that US Shelby Co. made quality P-51s. I wasn't disappointed. Strong steel and don't brake like the Chinese crap that is out there. I keep one on me at all times, one in my Bug out Bag, and even (reluctantly) gave one to my wife, and buddy. If you are getting old, like me, go for the P-51 rather than the smaller P-38. It is much easier on your hands.

I bought this product to be kept with a collection of food I have stored in case of power outage or other such events. The pack I bought had four pieces to it. Each piece is very light weight and could be carried around all day without any issue. I was going to put one on my key ring but I soon discovered that the can opener opens up while inside of a pocket and the hooked edge catches on clothing meaning they do not sit in a pocket all that well. I have already tried to open cans of varying sizes and this can opener had no trouble with larger cans. If you have never used a can opener like this before you might have a few issues initially but after a can or two you should have no issue figuring it out. One of the things that I foresee as a potential issue is the durability. These are very cheaply made, I do not know how many cans you could open before it fails but i would not trust one to open up an entire emergency supply. If you plan on using these for a backpack, bug out bag or emergency kit I would recommend 2 or 3 can openers per each bag. You will likely not need all three but all you need is to twist one funny and break your only method of opening cans of food. This product is really not meant to be used daily. I have no doubt that if needed I could get into my cans of food without a problem with these can openers and I can save tons of space. I just tape these to the tops of the top of cans on the top of my collection and they do not poke above the lip of the can more then a few millimeters. This really is meant for camping, hiking or survival type events and activities. This is really not built to be used in a kitchen home or professional as the opening a single can takes a decent amount of effort and time which in a camping or survival situation is fine considering the almost non-existent weight added to a backpackPros: Lightweight, small, effective, large enough to fit in your fingers without problems (I have large hands)Cons: Not super durable, can not be kept in a pocket or on a key chain,All in all I am very satisfied with this product. There were no surprises the can opener does just that; open cans. It is not a very expensive product so it is no surprise it is made of inexpensive materials and not built to be used as a homes primary can opening method. I also prefer these P-51 to the P-38's, which are smaller. The P-51 is an excellent size at not to big to be annoying but definitely large enough to be functional.

These come out of the box taped together, taking up an amazingly small space. They are very compact and fold up completely flat, about the thickness of a quarter and close to the same weight (I put one on a postal scale and it weighs just a tiny bit more than a quarter). It isn't as quick to open a can as a standard size can opener that you grip with one hand and turn with the other, but it is sharp and works surprisingly well for something that you could put in a pocket and not notice that it was there. It took 50 seconds to open a small, round can of olives. I imagine having a few of these spread around in glove boxes, back packs, tackle boxes, etc. is a smart thing to do. They take up almost no space and could make a huge difference some day. Great for the price, portability and quality.
