The positive wire is the exposed male end!! That is an incorrect configuration! The male should be the black negative!

I was feeding power to a MPPT solar controller with cables 16 gauge and was getting enough voltage drop that it was better to go direct than thru the controller (like I got 2.2A direct versus 1.9A). Then I used this on the controller and a 12 gauge wire for the major length that made me start getting ~20V 2A feed in which the controller converts to 2.9A 13V charge at the battery. So the better wires and connections does give you 50% more power (as well as eliminate hot connectors that are a risk). Even adding another panel on the same feed gave me ~8A input at 20V with over 10A output to the battery. The SAE connectors seem the main 12V plug device (besides lighter outlets that pull apart too easily) and the color code on the wires helps you insure the correct connection. So look at such for a better system.

I’m using these to connect several 12V devices to my truck and my tractor. I have a diesel tank with a 12V pump. For power, instead of putting a battery on the tank, which I would have to charge and maintain, I put one I connected one of these to the pump cord, and I installed mating sockets on my tractors and truck.I also have a fertilizer spreader with a 12V motor, and I put a 12V shaker and a 12V air pump on the spreader. I use these connectors on all of them.The connector to socket connection has no gasket, so it’s not completely waterproof when in use, but they are tight and I haven’t seen any water leak in while I’ve used them in the rain. My sockets that are permanently mounted on my truck and tractors have a simple cap that snaps over and does make them rain tight when nothing is plugged in.
