I have several chalk lines that I use regularly but this is the first geared chalk line I have used. Now that I've had the opportunity to use a geared chalk line I regret not making the switch earlier. All of my old chalk lines are a simple 1:1, so reeling the line back in is a hassle. This chalk line is 6:1, which means you have to reel six times less. I really didn't think it was THAT much of a hassle to reel in my chalk line, but I now realize the error of my ways.However, besides the gear ratio in this chalk box everything else is well made. The chalk box arrives empty and do you need to completely reel out the line and fill the box for the first time. Less is more here, as I overfilled my chalk box at first, which makes reeling in that last 10 feet of line more difficult than it should be.Ultimately this is a well made tool and as long as you take care of it it should last you a very long time

This chalk line seemed promising with its durable plastic body and bold marking capability, but the reel mechanism is a major flaw. The internal gear constantly binds up, making it extremely difficult to retract the line properly. It’s possible I received a defective unit, but as it stands, this tool is almost unusable. I didn’t attempt to disassemble it to investigate further. Disappointed with this purchase.

Needed a chalk line because we're building a new deck at a buddy's house and I've somehow misplaced my old chalk line somewhere. This OX set is nice for the money. Chalk line and bottle of chalk combo is a decent deal really. I think i paid more for just my old chalk line. Nice bright blue chalk in the twist open bottle. Chalk line itself is made well. Nice line and hook on it... nice line crank and the ability to lock the hook and push button to free spin the crank to spin it to the lock position is a nice feature. The chalk box itself has a nice rubberized grip on both sides. The quick twist off top is easy to get loose and it has little tabs that hold the hook in place when it's locked into the hook storage slot on the side. Well throughout and well made chalk box. Works great, easy to pull a line with it.

Seems decent quality reel. I thought it came with ready chalked line but you have to put chalk in and shake it. Doesn't come with any chalk so pretty useless on its own so i had to spend as much again ordering some powdered chalk for it, could have bought cheaper combined, but it saved me a trip to the post office to return it, should be made clear in listing though

these OX chalk lines are the cat's meow I got mine a while back with the new bold style Kevlar rope and the lines I snap are also bold bright and visible the lines do not stain your material so don't fear that, that only happens with your using a chalk with a permanence level of 4 or higher. this chalk line has a great 6-to-1 gear ratio for smooth and quick retraction when reeling it back in. This chalk line is very durable easy to use and has an amazing price point of 20$

This little guy seemed like the perfect addition to up my DIY game. The case feels nice and durable. The chalk is a nice visible purply blue color and it comes with a big refill bottle full of it. There's no chalk already loaded, but that's no problem. The top twists off and you just fill her up through the opening that's very large and easily accommodates the refill spout. I'm very glad I thought to do this outside and I recommend you do the same, as I spilled a little bit when I was clearing the tip of the refill bottle.You've got 100 feet of the braided line, which is probably more than I'll ever need and there's a brake button on the side to more easily get the tension ready to mark. It's got a nice big solid feeling metal hook that clips into the side for storage and the gear ratio on the crank is pretty high, so it winds back up in no time. (After adding the chalk the crank got a little stuck, as I may have overfilled it a tad, but it's loosening up as I crank it.)All the features are there, the build quality is really solid and I checked it against the price of comparable products and this one seems like an excellent value. Easy 5 stars.

No instructions but nothing a quick YouTube video can’t fix. Make sure before adding chalk you pull out a good 20-30 ft so when you retract it the chalk gets the line saturated. Do this a few times with increasing amounts of rope pulled out each time.Once all set up, it’s a pretty solid chalk line. It’s a bit bulky in my opinion and doesn’t have a belt clip which would be nice if you ask me. But oh well.Some nice features to tuck the hook in and the winding handle when not in use. Nice additions while not raising the price.More like a 4.6/5 stars rounded up. Very nice still and gets the job done.
