Looks and operates just as the "original" version. I couldn't tell the difference between this and the "name brand" version (except for the price, of course). I have both and as far as I'm concerned, they are equal in quality.

These gauges are the best and most accurate rain gauges I have found.

Definitely not a Stratus gauge. Much cheaper plastic, and not exactly to scale. Gives slightly different readings than my official CoCoRaHS gauge. I'm also guessing that ice will obliterate this gauge. Okay for casual readings, but these gauges are definitely NOT official for CoCoRAHS or COOP readings.

The inner tube, outter tube, cap, and mounting bracket all had tons of scratches! Looks used instead of brand new!

This is not your ordinary little rain guage. This one takes some effort... you have to take itapart each time to measure rain. You pour the water from the big cannister into the little rainmeasuring one to see how much it really is. It would be good for measuring maybe as little as1/8 inch or as much as 10 ? maybe.. . Once you do that then you have to put it all back togetherand mount it back on the wall. For the serious rain measurer :)

After a lot of researching for a rain gauge that allows 0.01" resolution for measuring very low rainfall amounts and was UV resistant I came upon this device. The crystal-clear polycarbonate (Lexan) construction should hold up a long time outdoors and shouldn't crack or craze like other plastics that breakdown with long-term exposure to the sun's UV light and heat. The 4 inch diameter opening at the top of the removable funnel collects ten times as much water as the smaller diameter graduated tube inside that stores the rain water so this allows the water level in the small tube inside to easily show hundredths of an inch increments of rainfall. We also wanted a rain gauge that wouldn't have to be mounted on a fence or post so it could be used on a level section of our yard to measure the quantity of water applied to our lawn from our sprinkler. The base is just over 4" in diameter allowing us to sit the rain gauge directly on the ground. I added four rubber feet to allow it to sit on concrete or other rough surface to prevent scratching the plastic and it also prevents slipping on smooth wet surfaces. The ten-inch long small tube has a spill-over notch at the top so if more than one-inch of rain has fallen the water runs over into the outer 4" diameter tube. Remember, one inch of rainfall becomes ten inches of water level in the small tube. So if you had a total of say 2.28 inches of rain, you would empty the water in smaller tube then fill it up to the top from the excess water in the 4" diameter tube. Then empty the smaller tube again (representing a total of 2 inches of rain) and then pour the remaining water from the 4" tube into the smaller tube. The water level should show 0.28 inches which when added to the two inches already accounted for would give the total of 2.28 inches. One of my photos shows the unit sitting on my driveway, another photo shows an engineering scale inside the small tube next to the markings on the smaller tube to show the relationship of the 10 to 1 scale. Another photo show where I applied rubber feet. And the last picture gives a visual explanation of how the 10 to 1 scaling works.Be sure to lift the assembly by the lower 4 inch cylinder and not the top since the top is not secured to the lower 4 inch cylinder and, as it happened to me, the lower 4 inch cylinder will fall off! I wish it had some sort of latching clips or a twist-on/twist-off locking design to prevent this from happening.UPDATE: We finally had some rain after I bought this to do a real-life test. We had 0.915" of rain overnight (almost an inch) and I've added some photos of the results. We had some wind which blew small bits of dead leaves and other plant matter into the collection funnel and made it thru the small opening (about the diameter of a pen or pencil) at the bottom of the funnel and into the small tube. Some of the small debris was floating at the top of the water column and some settled to the bottom of the small tube. I'm thinking of fabricating a fine screen filter to go inside of the funnel top to trap this debris from falling into the small tube. Very impressed with this product and the only improvement I'd like to see is a debris filter added and a twist-lock/unlock design to lock the funnel on top to the 4" tube below.
