About this item

  • SAVING SPACE: RAMPS 1.4 board is compact in design and consolidates all necessary electronics for a RepRap machine into one small package. This helps to save space and reduce costs.
  • SCALABLE: The RAMPS board interfaces with the powerful MEGA platform, providing ample room for expansion. Additional expansion boards can be easily added to the system, as long as the main RAMPS board remains at the top of the stack.
  • EASY TO USE: The RAMPS board supports bootloader functionality, allowing users to directly download programs via USB without requiring external writers. The development IDE interface is based on open-source principles, making it easy to obtain and use for various project work, school teaching, motor control, and interactive applications.
  • MODULAR DESIGN: The modular design of the RAMPS board includes plug-in stepper drivers and extruder control electronics on a MEGA This facilitates easy service, part replacement, upgrade-ability, and expansion, making it convenient for users to customize and improve their RepRap machine.
  • POWER SUPPLY AND DRIVER: The RAMPS board can be powered by optional USB power or an external AC-to-DC adapter and battery. This board also includes a stepper motor driver capable of controlling one bipolar stepper motor with an output current of up to 2 A per coil.

Product Description

RAMPS 1.4 Controller + MEGA2560 R3 Board
RAMPS 1.4 Controller + MEGA2560 R3 Board

  • RAMPS interfaces an Mega with the powerful MEGA platform and has plenty room for expansion. The modular design includes plug in stepper drivers and extruder control electronics on an MEGA shield for easy service, part replacement, upgrade-ability and expansion.
  • Additionally, a number of expansion boards can be added to the system as long as the main RAMPS board is kept to the top of the stack. Mega is an ATmega2560 as core micro-controller development board itself has 54 groups digital I / O input / output terminal (14 groups do PWM outputs), 16 sets of simulation than the input side, group 4 UARTs (hardware serial ports), using the 16 MHz crystal oscillator. With the boot-loader, download the program directly via USB without having to go through other external writer.
  • Supply part of the optional USB power, or as an external power using the AC-to-DC adapter and battery. Development IDE interface is based on open-source principles, allows you to free download for use in project work, school teaching, motor control, interactive works. A4988 driver is a carrier board or breakout board for Allegro's A4988 DMOS micro-stepping driver with translator and Over current Protection by Pololu;

I purchased this for a 3D printing project, but unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience. Despite careful assembly and troubleshooting, the board failed to drive my stepper motor, a task it’s explicitly designed to perform. I tested the same motor with another setup (Arduino Uno and a CNC shield), and it functioned correctly.Moreover, it’s not just about the faulty product, but the significant amount of time and energy spent trying to get it to work. As someone working on a project schedule, these delays have been frustrating.

Full kit of RAMPS controller base board, plus the stepper drive plug-in baby-boards, plus the MEGA Arduino compatible micro-controller module is already for experiments with up to a 3-axis positioner and the power control for heated extruder operation.

thankfully I had a couple of Mega 2560s in my stash. These were several years old. The new one would power on via the USB, but never showed up in the device manager. The two older versions connected just fine and I was able to program them. And my wife always critizises me for keeping "all this junk". See???
