The positive side rake combined with a somewhat negative 5 degree top rake cuts great on cast iron. Hung this out over 5 inches cuts with no chatter, good bar material and good insert design paired together makes a great boring bar. It did come with a insert installed, I also purchased a pack of inserts.

This bar was shockingly heavy. Even biting down on the last inch of the bar with my tool post, I can do extremely clean cuts without any chatter. I am mostly using this for deep boring plastic components at the moment, but all the same--wonderful!!

Great looking boring bar, 1/3 the cost of travers tool name brand. Inserts are 1/2 the cost of travers tool as well. I've been instructed to torture test the insert that came with this bar. Professional machinist since 1987, I will update review once I have completed my test. My company is looking forward to cutting insert cost in half. We currently spend around $200 weekly on them! Update, torture test completed, buy this bar and inserts. Superior product. .100" cuts with 3.5" protrusion are chatter free. Not a heavy duty enough bar for .012"/revolution cut, but .006/revolution are no problem..001" finishing cuts are also chatter free. Minimum bore diameter is .950" as well.
