This is one of those tools you rarely use but are so grateful to have when it’s needed. You can use other tools / wrenches and what not but this kit makes it easy.

Most of the tools are impractical for my small vehicle (nissan versa); maybe it would be good on large car or truck.

I haven't used this yet, I haven't got to the job I purchased for. However upon review I get the feeling that this really aimed at trucks, and possibly bigger commercial trucks. The tool for holding spring caps/retainers seems to big and the adjuster 'spoons' look too big to fit through the adjuster holes.I see If I can update this once I know for sure.BTW.. th tools look good as long as they will fit, hence the 4 star rating.

It worked, you just need to know which of the tools will work best for your situation. I tried the spring pliers and they were more of a pain in the butt. I used the spring tool that looks like a bent rod, it has a nice notch to hold it in place while you pry on the spring hook. The smaller spring compressor too was too small, and the other tool worked for my 1999 Jeep Sahara brakes. Overall I am sure the kit will be handy for doing other drums, for my Jeep I could have gotten by with normal tools, like a screwdrivers, and pliers, but this kit did help a lot from doing the wrong tool workaround. I would recommend this if you own a classic car with drums. The adjustment spoons work well, but not really needed if you have a flat head screwdriver in there. But still, nice to have it all in a single kit so you don't have to go back and forth to the toolbox.

I hate to do drum brakes on any car or truck--glad most don't have the old style anymore--I own a 1973 chevy blazer that has these old style drum brakes and I bought this set of tools to service the system. I used to just use pliers and muscle to get those springs in place. My old hands cannot do that anymore. The tools are a bit difficult to use--just could not get comfortable with them--very sloppy ---might just be me. The quality is good and I did not breaking anything.

This is a great tool kit for a DIY kinda person who replaces drum brakes every couple of years. If you are doing this on a daily you may want to look at something more durable.

Used on a 2002 Tacoma. They're pretty basic tools and sort of work. The long-handled spring stretcher could use some actual grips, it takes a LOT of leverage to pull a spring out of/into position, and the lack of an actual grip made it harder than it needed to be. The spoons for adjusting the brake shoes need to be about 1/4 the thickness to be useful. Too thick, and edges too blunt, to effectively spin the adjuster. Primarily I went back to the old stand-by, a pair of vice grips, to install the new springs. Brutal, treacherous, slips off and draws blood, but ultimately effective. This kit may work better on your car than mine. Who knows. The tool to install the shoe hold-down pins works reasonably well, easier to control than a pair of vice grips. As terrible as a drum brake job is, they did help somewhat. For the price, I'd buy them again. Probably saved me some skin, cursing and maybe 15-20 minutes of wrestling around with screwdrivers and pry bars (and of course vise grips).
