This enclosure looks and works great on my Linux system. The enclosure is marked as Orico 2139C3-V1 and the chipset detected is ASMedia Technology Inc. ASMT105x (ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge, ASM1153E SATA 6Gb/s bridge), with USB ID 174c:55aa. A blue LED indicates power, and a red LED flashes during activity.

For just £5.99, this ORICO 2.5-inch hard drive enclosure is fantastic value. It’s a basic enclosure, but it does exactly what it’s meant to do, and it does it well. I’ve only used it with an SSD so far, and it worked perfectly with fast and reliable data transfer. The tool-free design is a great touch, making it super easy to install the drive in seconds. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly enclosure that gets the job done, this is a solid choice.

So hard to find hard drive enclosures in brick and mortar stores anymore, let alone at a reasonable price. Love the transparent design, thought it was interesting. Looks good, solid materials. Works well since first using. I like to keep the hard drives from my old computers. Arrived surprising quickly as I do not have Amazon Prime and always choose cheapest way to ship ;) Very pleased with purchase.

Worked well for 11 months. I'm a couple days short of the 1 year purchase date and the enclosure died on me. Still recognized by Windows, but when trying to copy anything it reports the transfer speed is over 1GB/sec for just an instant, which obviously isn't possible on a hard drive. And right after that the transfer stalls and never continues. The same hard drive works perfectly fine in another enclosure. Even passed diagnostics, so I think the controller in this enclosure is toast. I guess for $10 I can't be too upset. Just be aware when buying this that it may not last very long.Update:Seller contacted me promptly after leaving my review and offered to replace the unit under warranty. New unit arrived in a little over a week and works with the same drive that was no longer working in the old failed enclosure. Any business can have a few units go bad, but this shows they care about their reputation and stand behind their products, and that makes all the difference. Updating my review from 2 stars to 5 because of the excellent customer service. Would buy from them again!

It's hard to find a good budget enclosure that does the trick but this one does it! Interesting look, but it lives behind my computer anyway so no biggy. Cool that you can see the drive through the case.

Last enclosure I bought did not work with several SSDs I had. Purchased here, so I returned and bought this one. Because of this, I immediately tried several SSDs, not just the one I was not going to use in this enclosure for now. It worked with several SSDs, no problem - recognized, reads, writes. Have used with windows and Linux (MX 21) drives formatted NTFS and exFat, no problem, works well. The power LED (blue) is easy to see, of course - case is transparent. It's pretty bright but since small isn't annoying, so good there. A red/pink LED lights when drive is being accessed - nice feature I didn't know it would have. Thinking about transparent case... it's nice to see what drive is in there, but the ripple effect is ... I dunno, maybe okay, maybe annoying. Does add some texture/grip to it I guess. It's hard plastic, so DON'T drop this - I'd be very worried it'd crack.Drive fits in nicely, as it should. It came with 2 foam shims w adhesive strips on one side, I used only 1 and drive fits firmly, no rattling, and case closes snugly but comfortably. Check your drive before you go slapping both shims in - might not need them both.Enclosure case seems to slide/snap closed firmly ... wasn't sure about this at first, but top seems to stay closed/not pop open or off... so far.All in all, seems to be a good enclosure, but nothing fancy, no frills. Gets the job done, would buy again. Why not 5 stars? Nothing wrong, not at all. Just not necessarily a 5-star standout level device over other options. I do recommend it and I'd buy again without hesitation.
