Solenoids open and close automatic irrigation valves. They operate via a 24V electrical connection to an irrigation controller. When electricity flows from the controller to the solenoid, a small steel rod inside of the solenoid lifts off a bleed hole, allowing the valve diaphragm to open and water to flow through the valve. These replacement solenoids are for 24V irrigation valves. They have a stainless steel rod, copper core, insulated lead wires, and a waterproof resin casing which protects the internal components. Interchangeability of 24V solenoids depends on the footprint. See compatibility chart in the images. While it is relatively rare for a solenoid to fail, replacement is very straightforward. Simply turn the water mainline off, remove the waterproof nuts from the wires of the existing solenoid, unthread the solenoid from the valve, thread the new solenoid into the valve, connect the solenoid wires with new waterproof wire nuts, and turn the water mainline back on. For outdoor irrigation use with cold water only.

Exactly what I needed. It is a universal option for rainbird and orbit valves. Fit perfectly. Solved my problem of a short in this particular valve.

There is a third orbit size for the solenoid. sell an adapter. I was able to get an adapter at Ace hardware. But it’s ridiculous. That orbit sells the solenoid with two sizes, but they don’t have the third size adapter included. Nonetheless, the solenoid now fits with the purchase of a third adapter.

The advertisement on Amazon showed the solenoid on the right, but what came was the solenoid on the left, which I can buy cheaper at Lowes, but which I would not do, because it does not fit my sprinkler system. The one on the right does and would have worked great. That's what I thought I was buying, based on what was advertised. False advertising by MaxWarehouse.

57226 is the Orbit solenoid you want. It's universal and replaces all previous solenoids. Some of us HAD a silver plunger and spring. This solenoid has a black, internal plunger and spring. With this version the plunger and spring can't fall out and get lost in the grass or mud. It will and does replace the silver version solenoid. The 57226 kit comes with an adapter for the larger 1" solenoids on the 4 top screw valves. This will work on Orbit, 8 screw top valves, 4 screw top valves and jar top valves (that have a screw on top like a mason jar).
