Poor build quality on the plastic parts of the console. The plastic piece on the spring loaded cartridge door broke as soon as I touched it. And I BARELY touched it! Not that big of a deal for me, but it was a pretty bad first impression and probably would be a deal breaker for some. It could also potentially cause further damage if the broken pieces fell into the 72 pin connector and you tried to put a game in. I shook out 2 tiny plastic broken pieces and a spring and checked that there were no obstructions before using it.Aside from that, I love this thing. It does a great job playing every NES game I've tried on it. It even plays my worn out carts that are very difficult to get working on my original NES.Unlike a lot of other clone systems, this one has pretty good sound. It's not perfect but I haven't come across anything jarring yet. It also doesn't have a death grip on the cartridges like other clone systems. It holds them pretty firmly but not so much that I'd worry about it damaging the contacts on the cartridge. The games look great on my giant HDTV. I'm very sensitive to lag and there seems to be just a tiny bit of lag with this thing compared to playing my original NES on a CRT or even original NES connected to the same HDTV. But it's so minimal, most people probably wouldn't notice it. Games are still 100% playable, even ones that require very fast reaction. If the cartridge door hadn't fallen apart, I'd have given it a perfect score. I took a picture but the Amazon app won't do anything when I click to attach a picture.

Box was undamaged. Couldn’t even put the game in and could hear and then see a spring moving around in the console. The lid to the opening had lodged down into the console. It seemed like we had just recieved someone else’s return. No way that happened during shipping. Easy enough return with no hassle but wouldn’t order again.

This is the only budget clone NES I was able to find with a switch for 4:3 aspect ratio. That alone makes this a no-brainer for me, unless you like playing really stretched out NES games, or messing with your TV settings every time you want to play a game. Personally, I do not. The Classiq N comes with both HDMI and AV connections so you can even play on your old CRT. Even the high end AVS is missing this obvious feature. The controllers that come with the system feel like a solid replacement for the original NES controllers, complete with the razor sharp corners and the good ol' D-pad thumb-burn. I'm sure you can find more ergonomic alternatives, but the included controllers really take me back to the originals.I was going to take off 1 star for a couple reasons but I decided not to because I honestly feel like this is the best choice for a budget NES clone. The first issue I had with the system is it is kind of difficult to remove cartridges when you first get the console. After some use this problem went away. Maybe use Jaws or something to break in the system and save Contra the wear and tear. As other reviewers have stated, the sound isn't perfect, but it isn't bad, at least as far as I've heard. The Classiq N sounds different from the sound the original NES produced but it has not stopped me from enjoying the games at all. I do also have one cart that won't seem to work with the system. I bought a second copy that was stated as "tested and working" but just shows a grey screen in the Classiq N. It could be a compatibility issue or I just got unlucky with 2 copies of the same game. However every other game I own worked on the first try.I also want to mention the system comes with a USB power supply, power cable, HDMI cable, and an AV cable when Old School could have easily cheaped out here and not included any of this stuff.Anyway, I recommend going with this option if you are looking for an NES that will work on a modern television. I have only had mine for a couple weeks so I can't say if there are any long term issues with the system or the controllers but I'll try to update here if anything.

I got this since I wanted an NES, and after watching Rerez's video on it, I decided it looked cool and cheap enough. I am not disappointed. I plan to collect video games in the future, however at the moment, I only have one NES game, so this is based entirely on that, so this will be based on my copy of the Mario and Duck Hunt combo cart. First thing I noticed is Mario appears to be noticeably higher pitch than the original, but Duck Hunt seems fine. Because of that, I'm fairly certain that it's the fault of the cartridge so I'm not gonna deduct points for that, but if I figure what causes it I'll be sure to edit this. Aside from this, the two controllers it comes with- which cost TWENTY BUCKS- are really nice and less jagged than the original. Other than that, well...they're NES controllers, I don't know what you want me to say. As for video output, the composite looks eh but that's because composite generally is eh. But you bought this for the HDMI. An oh boy does it look CRISP. Not only are the colors brighter than composite, but the edges are so smooth looking and- jeez, it's just beautiful. Not AS crisp as the AVS for example, mind you, but considering the AVS is ~$180 and this is $40, it's worth the small compromise. And for those of you that like the darker and more rough look of older TVs, though I criticized composite for that, i that's your thing this thing makes it look almost indistinguishable. So even for classic looks, it gets an A+. All and all, this product is the kind of thing you'd expect to find for way more than $40. It does so much so very well, and for that I think this thing deserves 5 stars. If you're a fan of the NES like me but don't have one and don't wanna buy an expensive one, or even if you DO own one but want one that has HDMI, this product is DEFINITELY for you. I cannot emphasize this enough, highly recommended
