Initially purchased this to make soup mix gifts for Christmas. Very good quality. ( of course had to try the recipe before gifting!). This is a great shelf staple for soups or emergency food supply.

This will work out great when things get tough and you have an emergency and you need to have backup food for things like this that go on or way overpriced food and by doing this you save a few bucks.

Great product and flavor. Just make sure to soak the meat overnight if you can, makes a big difference. Will 100% buy again!

Cooked with these a few different ways to try them out. When rehydrating flavor the water with your favorite spices/seasonings, worcestershire sauce. They don't seem to have salt in, so I add some. The beef is really good and texture of actual ground beef. Made with chili, and other dishes. Works well. I did experiment with frying in pan, thought I could hold the pieces together with a slice of cheese. LOL, not really, but it did taste like a cheese burger. Cook for only a minute or 2. Give this a try, you won't be disappointed. Cooking for one, this product is great! Choose the amount you want, stores in cupboard so you don't have to deal with freezer burn. Cost effective.

Didn't buy this to open it up this year, so I cannot tell you about taste. If SHTF then protein is going to be the most difficult and important food element here. Unless I can catch the deer that keeps stripping the leaves from the sweet potatoes. If you want a stockpile that is still good when you need it you have options. 1) Live on your stockpile and rotate stock religiously. You can learn a lot about the validity of your plan by eating out of the stockpile. But if you want set and forget...or bury remotely, then this is tiresome. 2) Production. The Harvest Right is real, and the cheap way if you are stocking for a community rather than a couple. But if I spend north of 3 grand for a new toy, it better be able to carry firewood in the back. 3) That leaves canned freeze dried like Nutristore. It is expensive, yes. But consider the value equation. It will be there. For 25 or more years, safe from pests, fallout, oxygen, Hurricane Agnes Flooding, Hugo's infrastructure demolition, neglect, freezes, stacking, transit, and smaller fires and quakes. Where do you want your protein when the power goes out for the second two weeks in a month (my father, Port St Lucy FL.) Or 6 weeks (Quebec, 2/1998) or whenever. You know all the grid parts come from China these days, right? So swallow hard, buy some, and know that the price will be much higher by the time you actually need it.

I bought this for the novelty to see if freeze dried could taste any good. First time i tried it i followed the instructions but it ended up a bit too chewy and tough in the center. I tried longer incubation times in water and then i just left it in a large bowl of water covered in saran wrap overnight in the fridge. After that and throwing it in the microwave it was amazing! Great texture and it has a meaty fatty taste that is actually filling (almost too filling i gained weight). I tried then combining it with canned soups, or some rice, or even instant noodle to add more protein... and that can actually goes a long way for one person. This is the real deal.
