Just to summarize:Fast shipping with excellent packaging. The muffler fit as EOM.The flange mounting bolt too big, unable to use.The burning smell gone in 2 days (around 1.5-2 hours driving on highway). No needs to take off reinforcement panel.Previous similar muffler last exactly 2 years.

I bought an exhaust system for my 2008 smart car not only did it arrive within a week but my mechanic was very pleased with it and it was semi-reasonable price

This exhaust system showed up at my back door 2 days after ordering it,It was an exact fit for the factory exhaust. The flange gasket was genuine Mercedes.Unfortunately the flange mounting bolts were too big in diameter for my factory cat, so I had to visit my local hardware store for ones that did. This is a real shame because the ones provided were of superior quality to what I could by locally. It took about an hour for the paint that was near the cat to burn off. Don't be surprised by this as its very close quarters in that engine bay.The "Open Pipe" situation caused by the bad flex pipe on my old system sounded good, but this new one sounds fine and I've notice quite an improvement in mid range acceleration.A "Win- Win" situation!

I finally recognized that the flex pipe on my 2008 Smart Fortwo was spent. This new replacement was less expensive than some used OEM mufflers that might need to be replaced with a flex pipe in the future, and it was even less than half the cost of some performance mufflers.Mine came with an exhaust gasket and mounting hardware from the muffler flange to the cat flange. The OEM bolts broke trying to removed them. The cat flange has weld nuts, and I was able to break them off. The supplied bolts were just slightly too large for all the holes. I think the supplied bolts were M10 hardware, and I believe I used M8 hardware. After installing this on my 2008 Smart Fortwo, I realize that I had a more substantial sound problem with the bad flex pipe. Great value in this replacement!

Items was shipped quickly and packed well. Looking like it's made well, some weight to it. Fit in the hangers on my 2013 Smart car, matched up with the catilitc converter, and bolted together as intended. Instalation is something of a challenge, no fault of the muffler, as not much room for removal and installation of the 2 bolts required to hold in place. The sound...quiet, purrs like kitten! Two weeks, so far so good...pleased!

This muffler fit perfectly and is almost as quiet as the OEM. It is painted, including the flange and downpipe. The OEMs are not.The exhaust downpipe flange in the Smart 451 gets to 600-800 degrees F because it's connected directly to the catalytic converter flange. This muffler will definitely smell for couple days after you install it unless you remove the paint at least on the downpipe. The OEM pipes are some kind of stainless. It's not clear what is used here. Expect the flexible pipe to fail at the top or bottom weld in a few years, if not sooner. If a flexible pipe failure is the reason you're replacing the muffler, the muffler you're replacing is probably still good, meaning you might be able to get a new flexible pipe welded on for a replacement. Check Youtube. The muffler does not ship with a high-temp exhaust flange gasket, which you will likely need. Get one unless you already know your gasket is OK. Beware, some gasket sellers supply paper gaskets rather than high-term exhaust gaskets, so try to get an OEM gasket. You may have to cut off the original star/torx flange bolts and flange nut because the very high temperatures will have deteriorated them. The flange nuts on the catalytic converter side are held on by four small welds. But, you don't want to chisel them off because the impacts might damage the catalytic converter. A standard angle grinder will not fit the space, so a small Dremel style tool with angle cutter could be needed. 8 mm or 5/16 flange high strength bolt/nut will fit the hole that remains. The space might not allow for the use of bolt removal tools. You cannot replace this muffler without taking off the back bumper and rear reinforcing panel.
