I ordered this tool, but the one I received didn't match the picture or description. It does work, but it's hard to tighten the window balance properly. I was expecting it to be a bit easier to use based on the listing. It gets the job done, but not as smoothly as I hoped.

Some learning curve involved, but I'm so glad I decided to repair my windows. We were almost convinced to replace all of our windows because they weren't working properly. $30K it would have cost. For a grand total of less than $200 we now have perfectly functional windows.

How to make it work was another job to learn.It's a durable tool and performed its function simply and well once I learned how to replace and adjust spiral balances.The old ones were completely destroyed, so use of our windows has become a one-handed job that stays instead of an inordinately heavy hand/finger 'slams shut guillotine' that required a box of supports for various heights.

I am replacing some balances on 50 year old Alenco Seriies SH-350 windows.Three stars for easy to use. I had to shorten the tip by 1/4" to be able to insert if into thetip of the balance. the tip diameter of the tool is perfect for the size of the hole in the endof the balance.The offset of the tool is also perfect. Any more offset and cranking would be difficult.Tool is easy to grasp with the textured handle.Very happy with the tool.Incidentally we are located in the same town as a retail outlet which sells parts for old Alenco windows as well as new replacement windows from other manufacturers, and they would not sell me a tool. If I need new windows in the future, I will NOT buy them from that store.
