This is the fourth UJ-267 I bought, and the item was shipped from Shenzhen, China. It took almost one month for me to receive the item. I tested it with a Y-type USB2.0 optical drive cable and found that the unit could not read or recognize the SONY BD-RE, after using DeoxIT cleaned the contact points, it was a fully working unit. I tested many times using different types of BD-RE, BD-R, burned at least 6 SONY BD-RE XL 100GB, 1 Verbatim BD-RE DL 50GB, and 1 SONY Quad Layer BD-R XL 128GB flawlessly. It’s Genuine UJ-267.1. Reading Test – if you are using Windows 10 copy directly (Random Access) a Blu-ray disc, the UJ-267 need to work extremely hard. I heard the laser head moving back and forth to search for the tracks, and the data transmission speed is very slow, only 1~8MB/s, sometimes errors occur. If whole data of a 100GB BD-RE XL is copied out, probably the UJ-267 will reach its lifespan.Later, I used the Sequential Read mode to “save tracks” of SONY BD-RE XL 100GB Blu-ray disc to an ISO file using Nero Burning Rom. It took almost 4 hours to complete and the speed was constant 8~9MB/s, besides the UJ-267 runs very quietly. After save tracks successfully, the ISO file can be opened with Windows File Explorer without any problem.3. Install into MacBook Pro 15.4inch 2012 non-Retina; Prepare to swap the Top Cover of UJ-267 with donor (top cover from a non-working Panasonic UJ-8A8). First remove the warranty label of UJ-267, unscrew the 4 screws on the upper cover, then push the upper cover back about 2.0mm, the top cover can be removed by slowly lifting from one corner.4. After carefully examining inside of UJ-267, this unit was indeed a brand new one. The anti-slip gasket inside and the reverse side of the top cover is immaculate.

If you are installing this in a desktop or laptop that doesn't already have a faceplate to accommodate a slot-loading drive, be prepared for an ugly hole in your computer with no protection from the elements. I will have to come up with my own faceplate somehow. Not what I was expecting got $100+!! Not many options out there for a slim Blu-Ray but I cannot recommend this one.

It works for up to 50GB BDs, but it doesn't work with MDISC 100GB discs which are very common i haven't tested with standard 100GB BD but it doesn't seem to be reading things it claims to same for 4K Ultra HD discs.

I installed one in the Fractal Node 804 server case (cover). The only funny thing was it took me a little while to realize that the way it allowed me to mount it into the case (it mounts in the front cover of the Node 804 case), is that the optical discs have to have the writeable/readable side parallel to the front of the case, not the "top" side up. Runs fine with Linux MATE 20.2.
