We put them on our outside patio floor, and could see exactly how they performed during a rainstorm. They stopped the rain water running to a doorway for about 10 minutes, as the vermiculite inside them expanded. But once expanded, they were permeable!! Water just drained right through them, slowly and steadily!! I thought they would be impermeable once they absorbed water and expanded. Not so.

We use these to capture potential leaks from our water furnace. It does a great job with regular leaks, but if the whole furnace fails it will not absorb the entire furnace contents. I don't expect it to handle that large amount of water. We have used these for years and are pleased.

you lose 1.5 to 2.0 feet by the time you shack the item to make a full 3in round so a 20ft ends up being18ft longI used some of these when I was taking care of aircraft but they where of better quality

We used these inside at each door during Hurricane Florence where we had days of wind & rain (about 30 inches of rain total ). Had no water come in main doors to our house but soaked up water at the garage doors & kept our garage dry but most importantly kept the water out of our kayak room & did not allow any water to reach a dehumidifier in that room. These socks were all soaking wet but rooms remained dry! I did try to dry them out but they were really wet & took many days in the sun to dry. They lost about half of their absorbency stuffing. I will order more to keep on hand & use these old ones for backup if needed. It was wonderful to have these & know that they really worked!!

Bought it for "just in case" we ever had a flood or water issue. No immediate need. Recommended to me by aninsurance adjuster who had seen them used and knew how good they were. Everyone should have these on hand, youcan't place an order when the water is on its way into your house.
