If you are a grandmother giving this to an out of state grandchild, make sure their mom knows that she has to create an account. This establishes an age group and interests and reading parameters and allows access to six months of free books similar to Kindle Unlimited.It’s a great program and my 9 year old grandson is in love but it takes 10 minutes of setup.It was an excellent gift, I hope I can do as well for his birthday.

We bought this for our 9 year old son for Christmas. He liked reading before but we can’t get him to put his kindle down now! The paper white holds a charge for weeks, we love the adjustable brightness, the case has been durable, and it’s a good size for kid hands.We’ve struggled a bit getting books onto the kids view so we’ve had to remove the kids view but it’s worked fine for us so far to allow him to access all books on our account (he thankfully has no interest in what I read lol). This may be user error but the ease of use could be more user friendly.

I purchased this for my 10 year old son and he absolutely loves it! He’s an avid reader and this is perfect for him to read at night, in the car, and everywhere else!

There is no mention in any of the marketing or product description that there is a web browser on this device. It's very clear to the buyer that this is a safe, all they can do is read, with parental controls and age appropriate settings and filters for what they can read. This is a regular Kindle that can access the FULL kindle store with access to sexually explicit books, and there is a web browser. Our child searched for the character for her favorite book and she found herself on a sexually explicit Ai chat about that character (Percy Jackson). I was a parent that trusted a "kid friendly" product only to find out this isn't really a product for kids(aside from the cute ocean cover), it can be set up that way and there are ways around the set up. This item is being returned. I tried to give zero stars but I had to at least give this 1 start to submit the review.

We bought two of these kindles for Christmas because our kids love to read. I think they’re serve their purpose but the user interface could be better. It’s definitely not an iPad, put it that way.

Our 8-year-old son got this as a Christmas gift, he is an avid reader and this is by far his favorite gift. He uses it daily in the car and to read before bed. He is able to use Amazon kids without assistance to download new books, and I have been able to put rented library books on as well. Easy to use and functional. Brightness is good. Battery life superb, hasn’t died yet with only a few charges and he reads for hours. We like the color (sea creatures) and size. There are some slow/lags as I have also experienced with kindle in the past but overall 5 stars.

The colors are super fun for the kiddos. It is light as can be and won't strain their wrists. The battery life is beyond amazing. I've left mine out into he cold for a week and it still has battery. This is so easy to use and navigate the store for new books. The speed is a bit slow when shopping, but it isn't so bad I can't handle it or that it loses my kids attention. I have thrown and tossed this thing around and it doesn't have so much as a scratch on it. If you're thinking about buying it, it is worth it and do it. The build of it is perfect for children and indestructible.
