I purchased my Netgear modem 4 years ago. I have xfinity/Comcast service and got tired of paying them an extra monthly fee for the use of their modem. The hookup was extremely easy to do. The directions that came with this product had specific directions for use with our xfinity service. This year the modem had a glitch and we were not able to get it working. I called the Netgear 800 service number and after persistence by the Netgear representative our issue was solved. Since the warranty was long past I did pay for the help I received. That happened 2 months ago and it’s still working. This modem has saved me $$ over the last 4 years.

I purchased the Netgear 7100v especially to get rid of my Comcast phone modem which was costing me $10.00 per month. The Netgear 7100v is on the Comcast approved list of modems for internet/phone service. Prior to arriving, I viewed a couple of YouTube videos on installation. When the modem arrived, I plugged in the cable and telephone cord and almost immediately, a screen popped up on my TV indicating my new modem. I only had to answer a couple of questions set my password and done! the modem came on in about 2 minutes including internet and phone service.I had this modem on the same cable as my HD TV using a splitter. After a couple of days, the system went down. I reset everything and it came back on. This happened two more times before I called for a Comcast Tech. Turns out that my old cable from the street is on it's last leg and will be replaced by Comcast. Apparently, these newer modems are more band width specific and my cable just wasn't handling the load. The tech got me running again by getting rid of a couple of splitters I didn't need and scheduled a street to home cable replacement. System has been running for 2 weeks solid at this point. The modem has excellent range even though the antennas are built in internally. This modem is made for large home. The modem is fast. I get 100 mbs hooked direct with cat5 cable and 51 mbs over the wireless. I might get a bit more after the new cable is installed, but this is approaching what I'm paying for from Comcast. The new modem/wireless router is 15 mbs faster than my old internet modem and it was a 600 mbs system. The Netgear 7100v is 1 gig.All in all, I'm very happy with the Netgeat 7100v and I would recommend it to anyone who has Comcast internet and voice.

This was an upgrade from a rented ARRIS TG1682G. First, you save $11 a month for not renting the ARRIS. We have the Triple Play with Blast 250mbps internet and noticed an immediate performance increase. The setup is easy, plug it into the outlet, hook up your cable line and use the provided ethernet cable and connect to a computer. Make sure your old unit is not hooked up. Once the arrows and the earth internet symbol are solid, open up a browser and log into the gateway. It will confirm you have an internet connection after you set it up and Comcast will open a website in the browser to set up your new connection. All they needed was my user name and password, the rest was automatic, they filled in the serial number and built the connection automatically. I used chat to confirm they could see the new unit and it was ready for use.You are able to set up a 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz network, set both up, the 2.4 is good for older equipment or printers etc, the 5Ghz should work with everything else. I was able to confirm that 24 down channels and 4 up channels were set up with my ISP. Huge improvement and we have 12-18 devices constantly using internet. The ARRIS would get 80-120 mbps with WiFi and up to 200 mbps with a direct connection, this was with streaming multiple HD/4K programs, downloading at 10 Mb/s and gaming at the same time, the problem was dropping constant connections and losing internet multiple times daily. The Netgear would get 200-250 mbps on WiFi (up to 30 MB/s download) and 300-350 mbps with ethernet direct connection doing the same tasks. The Netgear has a far better processor, Broadcom chips that do not drop internet connections and the extra lanes of traffic help with heavy use. Plus, it is upgradable to nearly 1 gbps connections and has a nice range increase over the old unit, about 1.5 to 2 times the range.Save yourself the hassle and upgrade if Comcast internet is not providing what you pay for, Netgear is usually solid but they will sometimes have lemon units so get the insurance just in case.TLDR: Reliable, easy to set up, more powerful processing, great for multiple devices at once, decent speed increase, faster/snappier internet, increased range, cheaper monthly bill and works with Comcast XFINITY internet and VOIP.

Modems and routers should be easy, plug them in, follow some prompts, and set up your wifi names. These days, most companies make a product that is user friendly and once they are set up, they run forever.I bought this model because I switched to Xfinity and I did not want to rent a modem and router from them. It worked great from March of 2018 until November of 2018. And then they did a firmware update. Xfinity went above and beyond to try and help me figure out why my internet kept goint down. It went down four, five, eight times a day. When it came back up, I still could not get to the internet. They pointed me to a firmware update and then I knew what I had to do.I called Netgear for support. Guess what? They install software on your modem that turns it into a brick and then they tell you that there is only 90 days to technical support. 90 days. 90. When the modem reboots, and this is why I kept losing internet service, the modem goes back to the point it was at when it came out of the box. This means you have to go in and change the wifi names again, change the passwords, and then your internet will work for an hour or two. You also have to go put in the password for the network you set up on all your devices because things have changed.I will never, ever buy another Netgear product again. Ever.
