Day 1: Install was pretty straight forward. It went on a new cable install too. From first go I was only getting 370 Mbps wired on a 1 Gbps plan. The range seemed great, the speed seemed constant, though slower than it should be. I assumed it was a problem with my service (Cox). I am a busy person, so I lived it with it for 3-4 weeks.~20-25 days: Some weird things started happening. The router would stop putting out internet to all of our devices. I would reboot and it would work again. After a couple times, I noticed it was happening at routine times of day and more and more often.Day 29: I checked the logs. Tons of errors of all kinds. Still max 370 mpbs even after Cox replaced the drop to my house. I read the Amazon reviews again and remember that this Netgear garbage has all sorts of known problems and that I had originally decided to try it and return if it displayed any signs of any of these problems.Day 30: I jump on Amazon and buy the surfboard modem and a TP-Link router that I should have bought to begin with and process a return on the netgear garbage.Day 32: I install the new equipment and immediately get 800 Mpbs wired out of the box. I put the Netgear garbage back in the box, tape it up, and send it to Amazon to be used as an over-sized paper weight.Oh yeah, router setting are bare-bones, looks like a menu from the early 90's and port forwarding wouldn't work.

Purchased this for use with Comcast's Gigabit internet (DOCSIS 3.1) to replace the XB6 modem that Comcast leases with the service and overall I am very pleased with the purchase.Installation was super easy via Comcast's self-activation website, per the instructions on the included quick start guide. The lights on the left side of the device conveniently light up white for 1000 Mbps ethernet connections or amber for 10/100 Mbps connections.I'm getting about 900-950Mbps download and 40-42Mbps upload speeds on my PC on a wired connection (service is advertised as up to 1Gbps download and 35 Mbps upload speeds). My smartphone and other devices connected via 5Ghz WiFi are averaging speeds of 300-400 Mbps down and 35-42Mbps up. The wired speeds are comparable to what I was getting on the XB6, and WiFi speeds appear to be consistently faster and more stable on the C7800. I can't speak much to the range because I have a pretty small space and have been getting a stable WiFi connection everywhere on both modems I've used with the service. The Netgear Genie interface is intuitive, though a bit sluggish, for navigating and changing all the various settings. I also can't speak to any of the advanced features, as I've not had to change anything out of the box except for WiFi passwords. Ultimately, I was looking to avoid leasing equipment and wanted a DOCSIS 3.1 modem with built-in router and at least 4 ethernet ports (vs. only 2 on the XB6) to connect my PC, TV, and gaming consoles. This appears to be the only device on the market out right now (July 2017) that checks all the boxes for my needs and it performs as expected.I lucked out and was able to snatch this up during a brief (launch promo?) period when Amazon sold it directly for $325, which contributed to my five-star rating as a great value. At that price point, I thought it was a good deal considering a separate DOCSIS 3.1 modem and router of similar specs bought together would run closer to the $400 MSRP. At full price, I'd probably rate it at 4 stars since you do have some options and can potentially save money if you don't mind having two separate devices and buying a modem and router separately.

THIS IS NOT FOR COMCAST ONLY! It is also compatible with Cox internet. And probably many other internet provider services!!! It is a Great router. Very fast. Good range. The Amazon description is EXTREMELY MISLEADING. I do NOT have comcast infinity service. My wifi and cable provider is COX! I called Cox before I purchased this and was told that this IS on their list of approved modems that work with Cox service. After I purchased this, I called Cox to come to my house and set it up because I am not at all tech savvy. You could probably easily do it yourself. As it turned out, it was a good thing that I did call the Cox man because even he had trouble installing it. The trouble that the Cox man had was due to Amazon's fault - it was not due to any difficulty in installing it. Amazon shipped me a router that had a serial number on the outside of the box that did not match the serial number of the modem inside the box. and a different, non matching serial number was on the modem. The Cox man did not realize it for a while and that was why he had so much trouble trying to get it up online. Once he figured out that Amazon put the wrong item into my box and he got the correct serial number, then it worked right away.I am wondering if any accompanying documentation or warranty is supposed to be included in the box with this modem because my box had nothing in. It. I suspect that this had been opened and returned and mispackaged by Amazon afterwards and then sold to me. If anyone else leaves a message here can you please state if there was warranty or paperwork that is supposed to come with this. All in all, I DO recommend this modem. My test speeds have greatly increased. Am not positive but I think my Cox internet plan is for speeds of up to 50 and I am getting average speed readings of downloads 75.01-75.32 Mbps and uploads average speeds of between 5.29 and 5.67 Mbps.It is rather large. It is flat with 4antennae that stand 7 1/2 " high. The depth is 7 1/2 " and the width is 12 1:2". It is a medium weight. I highly recommend and I would buy it again. It is not too heavy. I hope this helps someone. I just wish I knew how to register my product and that Amazon had not switched boxes on my modem!
