Compass pivot pin clamp screw failed at first use. I would have only given it one star however it got a second star for fast shipping.

Bought these because they were metal and looking heavy duty. The plastic jobs are fine for sitting in a school desk, but when you are using the tools in a pack to do map work, the metal will hold up much longer. I wish the compass had more lines for more exact angles and the straight edge lacks any markings of a ruler. Seems like it could have been made more useful by the above additions.

The quality of the compass is OK, though it's not very well designed, seems like form over function. Not suitable for professionals and feels disposable.

like I said, the compass is quite nice. the edges are extremely smooth, and the compass itself is relatively flat. the logo/degree markers are applied rather than etched, so I don't know how long they'll last, but for this price who cares? I also appreciate that there's a very small cutout in the center of the cross arm so you can mark the center of where you're making your measurement. other protractors actually have a bulge in this position, which is beyond useless.the compass, however, is hot garbage. the lead is held into the frame by the pressure of a thumbscrew. when I received it the screw had been overtightened or something and the lead is COMPLETELY stuck. same with the anchor point I'm forgetting the name of, which is extra annoying since they're not even but can't be adjusted. it could be fixed by prying the frame open with a flathead screwdriver, but that shouldn't be necessary out of the box and will just further warp the frame. when the lead runs low I think I'll just buy a different brand. oh, and it came with only two leads, not four, which is apparently two more than another reviewer got.I can't say I'd recommend this kit just because of the protractor alone. at this quality level it's best suited for children, but there are much better options for kids out there. if you're looking for something to tide you over or something disposable, this'll work just fine.

It's a compass. It's a protractor. It's metal. It will not grant you super human abilities or strength, but it can help you draw circles and find angles. Will not impress the ladies or the fellas, but it will measure short distances. If these are things you need to do look no further.
