This modem/router combo is perfect for a light user. Setup is pretty simple but does take a little knowledge. I was getting my full speed from Comcast after just a few hours. Usually they have to update firmware and download software to get things optimized, this happened quickly and without issue. The unit does NOT support 5GHZ but unless you have a large number of devices this is not a major issue. Like I said this is good for parents or a 1 person household with 1-6 devices not a house with 20+ devices. The cost is great considering you are getting a modem and router. I set this up for my 94 yr old Dad he has 2 wireless devices and 4 wired counting his smart TV. All the devices work fine with no issues. The unit is pretty good sized but given that it is 2 devices in one it has a smaller footprint.

Purchased this modem after seeing the reviews and advertisements listed on Amazon.Item description and/or box reads statements like the following:Setup is fast and easy with a few quick steps set out in a Quick Start guide.Experienced USA-based customer support specialists are there to help if you need them. With easy installation, high-speed, broad compatibility, and superb customer support,Best of all, the MG7310 offers the value, performance, and attention to quality that continue to make Motorola the leading brand of cable modems.Fast activation for supported internet provides (like Time Warner).Installs in minutes.I myself have 20 years exp in the IT field. Recognized expert witness by the State in Computer forensics, as well as being a full-time developer, networks, etc. In addition to 12 years of working for an ISP.This modem DID NOT install easily with Time Warner - It took TWC an hour on the phone to provision this modem and get it working and to simply train up to Time Warner. This mode DOES NOT allow YOU to use IP addresses of 192.168.2.x, 3.x, and other LEGAL IP addresses as those are reserved within the modem for the GUEST networks. Even if you have the guest networks turned off, you still can't use those IP addresses. This modem DOES NOT allow YOU to specify your own DNS servers. Say your ISP DNS servers are acting stupid and you want to use OpenDNS servers. You are tough out of luck... because whatever you enter gives you this message: There was something wrong with the entry.Customer support did appear to be US based... But when I phoned them and asked them why I can't use 192.168.2.x addresses for my network... They indicated that is reserved for the GUEST network and it can't be overridden.I informed them that this was not disclosed to me prior to my purchase and it sounded to me like deceptive sales practices as it doesn't even come close to the advertised "easy setup" and industry standards of a customer being able to use LEGAL IP addresses of their choosing. The representative laughed! After hearing the snickering... I asked who was going to make me whole with my labor lost (as my existing network is all 192.168.2.x) with a wealth of static devices (indoors and outdoors, cameras, embedded devices, etc)... As their modem had cost me over an hours wasted labor, and to get it to work with our existing network would cost even additional labor... They laughed out loud and said I could just return the item.My review:Modem does NOT permit consumers to utilize common LEGAL IP addresses like 192.168.2.x and other addresses.Modem DID NOT install easily with Time Warner.Tech support was a joke in my opinion and completely unprofessional and turned their nose up at my States consumer protection laws.

I bought this gateway modem/wireless outer for my daughter to use in her off-campus apartment, using Xfinity. Set up was really easy, avoiding any need to delay for days until a tech could visit. It comes with an ethernet cord and a little wrench for the coaxial cable connection, although the directions say to just make it finger tight. We connected the cable, then plugged in the power cube, and per the directions, waited for 15 minutes until the lights stopped flashing. Next we were supposed to connect a laptop computer to it with an ethernet cord. At that moment, my daughter informed me that her Macbook didn't have an ethernet jack. No problem, we connected wirelessly using the network SSID and password that comes with the gateway, and up came a welcome screen from Xfinity. She put in her account number, and it was activated, just that easy. We then left for a couple hours to do some shopping, and when we returned, the gateway was hardly even warm to the touch. So my impression is that it doesn't run hot. The case is obviously bigger than it needs to be, for ventilation I assume. It is about 6 X 8 inches, and you can see that inside the case is mostly empty space. The Motorola name is as I understood it owned by Lenovo, which suited me since I have used Lenovo laptops for many years. (Later I learned that it is probably made by Zoom. The old Motorola Surfboard line was bought some years ago by Arris, and is now the Arris Surboard line, and Arris seems to be the market leader in cable modems, and maybe gateways too.) This particular Motorola gateway came to the market in 2016, and some of the early reviews were bad, but then they became consistently good, so I am hoping that all the teething problems with the firmware are over and done with. Durability and range are going to have to be the topics added later, as it is too early to say right now. It has a two year warranty.

I read some of the negative reviews for this product and disagree with all of them. I've been running this product for over 18 hours straight and have not experienced any disconnects or slow connections. I viewed a two hour Netflix movie last night with no stalls or interruptions and have experienced seamless wifi performance with a number of devices connected.Setup with Time Warner online was very simple and accomplished within 20 minutes, including changing settings internally and reassigning a new password. This Modem/Router is a bit larger than my last Surfboard but that would be the only con I've experienced. This is the second product I've purchased the week that received sketchy reviews on Amazon but performed flawlessly. I'm wondering if there is user ineptness involved, or malicious information being disseminated. I'm really quite pleased with my purchase!
