A plastic cable tie wound work just as well as this. The gaps in the lock are big enough to fit in a large screwdriver, that would easily lever it open, or a hacksaw blade to cut the tiny pin that "secures" the lock. The helmet lock cable swage fitting, is smaller than the groove that's meant to secure it, so you don't even need to cut the thin wire to free the helmet, just pull the cable end out (as seen in the picture).

When it comes to locks for motorcycles or scooters, you know that it is impractical to try to prevent a determined, professional thief. You might be able to do it with a big enough chain and lock (and a substantial object to which it can be chained). So you just have do what you can to discourage casual thieves, and that's where brake locks can be useful. The lock itself works pretty good. You release the lock with an included key, squeeze your handbrake and put the lock on the handlebar and brake. Push down on the button/keyhole and you're locked. The lock seems sturdy and well built. The helmet loop wire is a little trickier to use and frankly I think a good tug on your helmet would snap off the retainer on the end of the loop. There are better options, and of course there is a curse on any idiot that steals someone's helmet or safety equipment. This lock won't stop a couple of strong thieves from tossing a scooter in the back of a pickup, but it might delay or discourage them. That's worth the price.

I bought three of these to use on my three motorcycles so I don't have to worry as much about people trying to steal them. The include a cable to hang your helmet from which is good as on my Ninja the helmet hooks are under the pillion seat and I hate having to take it off and put it back on each time I want to lock my helmet.

I am able to use this brake lock by removing all the rubber inserts. I need to do that so that the lock pin will slide into the lock. Using the helmet lock cable is a bit tricky but it's good to have an option for my helmet.

This is a nice front brake lock that is very easy to put on and off by itself and it comes in a nice pouch for storage. However, the cable they provided to lock the helmet is way too short and it's a pain to hold the break lever pulled, the lock in open position, and the helmet in one hand, and trying to feed this cable into an open lock all at once with another hand. Good luck with that! Eventually I was able to complete this acrobatic challenge however, it took so many tries and dropped things on the floor that I dont see how it can be useful somewhere out on the street or in a parking lot.
