The city I live in does not register bikes but recommends registering with Project529. I did that before I saw that this sticker was available. I was concerned that the sticker number would not link to my registration so I emailed Project529 to ask and they responded in less than a day that it will link.I read all the reviews and saw that the most frequent complaint was that the sticker was too fragile to put on the bike so I was prepared for that. When it came it was quite easy to remove the backing very carefully and didn't have any problem. Just make sure you put it where you want it because it is not coming off.The number (letters actually) on the sticker were easily entered into my Project529 registration. I really like that I have all my serial numbers (bike, motor, battery) are all in Project529 along with pictures of my bike and my bike insurance and are immediately accessible to the police if I report it stolen.

There really isn't much more to say, except that any responsible owner of vehicles, whether motorized or not, should engage in proper theft deterrence and registration. Everyone should also have a good you lock and at least a sturdy cable for the wheels or better yet security skewers for them. I build, repair, and paint bicycles, sometimes for sale — my customer is absolutely love it when I transfer my registration over to them!

Nice to have a tamper resistant registration sticker. Pawn shops use it, and all they have to do is look it up to find information on the bike. Well worth the time and money

I like this because now my bikes are registered on the 529 website with a which our local police department accesses. This is a great website because you can upload photos of your bikes and all your accessory gear as well. No limit on photos.

Hope I never have to rely on this theft recovery system, but for 10 bucks, I couldn’t see the downside to registering my $4500 tadpole trike with 529. The sticker can be damaged with little effort, so I covered it with packing tape to protect it from the occasional hard contact with shoes and dirt, but it’s really there to warn would-be thieves that you’ve gone through some trouble to register the bike on a national database and establish ownership. The website makes it easy to upload all your proof of ownership. So thieves will hopefully get the message that it will be challenging to openly sell your bike on Craigslist, Facebook, Ebay or kijiji without the risk of being reported to local authorities. I also just want to do my part in contributing to the 529 Garage system and database. Lots of people supplement with a gps location service too, but that requires a monthly subscription….it all depends on how expensive your bike is, the frequency with which you lock it up unattended, and the likelihood of theft in your area.

in addition to being a bike registry, the website allows you to list ALL of your bike gear. not really intended for it, but it lets you make your own entries and take photos, so you can photography receipts, multiple angles.it's too bad it doesn't detect when you go into a bike shop and let you log purchases and maintenance you had done.while we're at it, it would be neat if it could track ride distance and give chain lube & check reminders too.

If you own a bike that you value and ride in an urban environment this is a no-brainer. You also get a full online bike profile with pictures, and an app for the listed cost. The community is now at 1.5 million (!) and growing. Locally alerted participants become eyes and ears on the lookout for your bike if it gets stolen. Plus a complete profile to share with police. Would you even have that otherwise? Unless you ride a POS this is well worth the few bucks IMHO. Especially with Ebikes. Bike insurance is not a bad idea either. And there are a lot more trackers coming to market everyday. Safe riding!

The 529 registry seems to be a great idea, although it is not popular here on the East Coast. I'm on board with it, in the "every little bit helps" mode of philosophy. Buyer beware: the sticker is extremely (EXTREMELY!) fragile and much caution is required to apply it - you get no second chances on positioning, etc. I suppose it has to be this way, that the sticker has less structural integrity than its adhesive, for a tamper-proof approach - but, I used the very tip of a knife as a tool to help me hold and apply the sticker, but the corner adhered to the knife and broke off the main badge. So, users, be careful. The website and support ecosystem to be well thought out, so here's wishing for the best ...
