Choosing 300g/140lb paper for mixed media offers several key benefits, particularly when working with wet media like watercolor or ink:

1. Prevents Penetration and Bleeding

  • Paper below 200g often struggles to handle the moisture and pigment load from water-based media, resulting in Ink or watercolor bleeding through to the other side of the paper and splotchy textures where pigment pools uncontrollably.
  • At 300g, the thicker paper absorbs water and pigment effectively without allowing it to seep through, maintaining the clarity and sharpness of the artwork.

2. Resists Warping and Buckling

  • When using water or ink on lighter paper (below 200g), the fibers absorb moisture unevenly, causing the paper to warp or buckle. This distorts the artwork and makes it difficult to apply additional layers.
  • 300g paper has the structural integrity to handle, Multiple washes or layers of wet media without significant warping. Maintaining its flat surface throughout the painting process ensures smoother and more professional results.

3. Supports Layering and Blending

  • With 300g paper, artists can apply more layers of paint or ink, which is crucial for building depth and texture in mixed media works. It holds the medium well, allowing smoother blending and layering without the paper disintegrating.

4. Durability and Versatility

  • Higher durability means the paper can endure heavier application of dry media like charcoal, pastels, pencils, and wet media. It resists tearing or fraying even after multiple reworks.
  • Versatility: Since 300g paper works equally well with both wet and dry mediums, artists can easily combine techniques, ensuring vibrant, long-lasting results.

Mixed media paper with a texture between medium rough and fine ensures that painting details are maintained while allowing for smooth transitions and controlled application. This texture is versatile enough for both intricate details and expressive strokes, making it perfect for capturing the nuances of detailed artwork while still providing some grip for dry media techniques. This texture allows for:

Precision in Detail Work: It provides enough smoothness to capture intricate and realistic details, ideal for fine lines and controlled strokes.

Textural Depth: The subtle roughness gives texture to the artwork, which is useful for creating depth and holding pigment, enhancing the overall visual richness.

Adaptability to Mixed Techniques: Whether using dry media like pencils or pastels, or wet media like watercolors and inks, this balanced texture supports the versatility needed for detailed and multi-layered paintings.

These sheets of paper are loose and in a bag. They will be damaged very easy. Not as pictured or described. Very disapointed.

This paper is extremely thick and feels great to work with. It has a nice texture and stands up well to paints and various kinds of pens. I’m excited to use it for art journal and mixed media projects and I think it’s a good value for the price.

I like this paper for Mixed Media. It's nice and thick, tests acid free, and essentially has one hot-pressed side and one cold-pressed (ish) side.It. held up to ink washes and acrylic paint.

This paper is excellent; it worked super well with different kinds of media. I used pencil and alcohol markers mostly, and the paper added to the piece. Pencil is very easy to erase and it doesn’t smudge, and the alcohol markers didn’t bleed at all. The paper is textured, so I’m sure it would be good for water color s well. It’s also pretty thick paper, which is really nice if you want to frame it, or hang it up by itself, and you don’t have to worry about it tearing. I think this is great paper to work with different mediums!

The texture is most like a hot press paper rather than cold press. I tried to show the texture of the paper in the first photo. The surface held up ok under various techniques. I was able to scratch the surface to remove paint to make grasses, and I was able scrub color out as well as applied masking fluid and remove it without damaging the paper. The last photo was a test of using salt on wet paint. For the price you can’t lose.

So far, I have used this mixed media paper for watercolors and inks, and I love it. The paper has a nice weight to it, and the media absorbs nicely. I haven't done any artwork for about 40 years, and this is my restart! I am very happy with this paper! This paper is made in China.

This is a good heavy weight paper - it has worked well for charcoal sketching with marker accents, and acrylic paint so far. For watercolors, given the price, I expected a bit more absorption to reduce runoff and bleeding. It was just ok there.Based on that, know what you're getting into and perform your own value equation. I don't do water color as much, so I'm good with what I'm using it for, albeit priced a tad higher than I would prefer.Color whiteness and texture is good. Not a bad choice.
