I used this varnish to refinish a kitchen table, a breakfast bar, and to finish a desk that I made. All turned out great. I added mineral spirits to thin it down, and used it as a wiping varnish. It worked much better than a popular brand pre-mixed wiping varnish, that costs multiple times as much. The kitchen table and desk now have 5+ years of use since refinishing, with no degradation of the finish. In all cases, after sanding, the wood was oiled with linseed oil. Table tops and desk top were then lightly sanded with a random orbital sander and 220 grit paper, until the oil+sanding dust filled the grain with excess "grain filler" wiped off across the grain. The wood was then sealed with a few coats of very thinned down varnish, until the wood would no longer absorb any more. Followed by several more coats of less thinned down varnish, applied as a wiping varnish (occasionally sanding between coats). The resulting finish is a warm golden color (from the oil) for both maple and oak. This oil based varnish works very well with the linseed oil treated wood.

This product is super oily and dips very easily. Manner of application is important! I initially brushed it on my kitchen cabinets after erroneously using a water based paint. Once this product dried, my cabinets looked like they'd been covered in Saran wrap AND frozen drips coming off the bottom (looked like icicles!). I proceeded to resand, repaint and then then apply a THIN coat of polyurethane using a sponge brush. I gave this product 5 stars because my fiasco was self inflicted. The product is just as described and good for small and large jobs alike as only a small amount is needed.

While in Europe and in Romania Borma Wachs is the norm for this type of poly, the Minwax is a calss above in my opinion by the finished glare it has even for the mat. The Gloss is exactly this glossy.I used to put 2-3 slim layers of Borma Wachs as it has UV protection which Minwax lack, then a layer of Gloss and a layer of Satin. beautiful UV resistant finish.

Excellent results, tough finishing, easy to apply. Can be used with brush, roller or spray. But you should also be aware that the regular type doesn't really dry that fast (indoors, 70F 60% RH, cross-ventilation), it takes 4-6 hours to be touch-dry, and 24-36 hrs to completely cure. Also, very high VOC contents, it will take a week or more to fully disipate solvent smell.
