This lantern out the box is very sturdy. Built very well for the price. Came with one mantle, ashamed it didn't come with two. At first glance, the lantern looked very well made and elegant to the eye. The igniter is easy to use and works well. Putting on the mantle they come with is tedious however as their drawstring is too short to even tie and tighten. So I recommend buying a bulk of 20 for 9 bucks. Search for 2.5 inch propane lantern mantles and get the 20 pack as they have decent string length and thick threads. That's what I have on here.(MANTLE INSTALLATION)VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVInstalling the mantles was a tad of a learning curve. So to install it, I recommend tying the string tight like a shoe, but make sure the string is just above the two little tongues at the base of the heat shield, not over it. Otherwise you'll end up with a loose mantle that'll break at the bottom and jostle around and not sit properly.(PROS)VVVVV1 - Great light output. Almost as much as my Coleman dual fuel.2 - The mantle doesn't break easily as it has two contact points instead of one. Side note: I had lanterns that had a single point where they hang, and when bumped, would flex them and ruin them. This lantern has two points, the base and the tip. So they won't flex. Perfect for bike packing as I do.3 - lightweight, and easy to carry.4 - comes with a nice case.5 - amazingly adjusts with slightest knob turns.(CONS)VVVVVV1 - The lantern does tend to flame from the top when set too high on propane.2 - Doesn't come with a spare mantle. Buy extras!!!! Especially if u never put on a ball type mantle before. Get bulk mantles and practice tying and lighting these till u get a perfect sphere shape. Make sure to start the lantern so the mantle can form its shape.3 - Mantles come with have too short of draw string. Again, buy new ones in bulk.4 - Glass globe. It's a double edged sword here, sure they put out more light than mesh or sheet metal hole punched ones. But I'm not too sure how long this glass will last before it ends up shattering from heat stress. If u want it to last, get the identical one with the metal hole punched sheet globe.5 - the igniter will melt, mine did after leaving it on overnight to keep the raccoons away. The striker bent from heat and me being annoyed at it being asymmetrical, I just unscrewed the lanterns base from the valve and removed the striker. And now use a lighter to spark it up. I prefer lighting my lanterns with a match or lighter anyways.6 - Mantles are a pain to install at first, but once u learn how to tie them, and where the string SHOULD BE tied. And how to adjust the mantles position and get the tip to poke through the green top, or even just let it lay on the tip then burn it in. Then you'll never forget how to do it. Took me 15 mantles later to get that perfect sphere Everytime.(OVERALL)VVVVVVVVALTHOUGH it is a great lantern. I wish they could give us longer string mantles. And some spares! The igniter melted on one of them, the other lantern hasn't, I still removed them anyways. The light output is amazing, and these use very little fuel compared to my dual mantle propane lanterns. If u want to use it with propane, get the 1lb adapter. 1lb to butane screw ones. They are more cost saving and propane is everywhere. I will purchase the metal globe versions and see how those fair, for now. I think these are worth the money. For the same price as these, get the metal ones instead. They are way more durable.

When it arrived I thought they had substituted a cheaper item. It says BL300-F Portable Lantern on the box, and if you google BL300-F1 you'll see exactly what you're getting and that it's sold under numerous different brand names. On arrival it had come apart during shipping, but snapped back together acceptably well. It seems cheaply made but not terrible. I was prepared to give it 2 stars but after putting on a mantle and firing it up (I used a propane adapter but plan to use this with both propane and butane), I have to admit I was impressed, and look forward to using it. The piezo-electric lighter works fine. It does not feel like it would hold up to backpacking or rough handle, but for a very small, low fuel consumption lantern with ample brightness, this seems like a cool little gadget. With the right adapters this will run on a backpacking butane canister, a 1 lb. green propane bottle, or one of those inexpensive taller 8 oz. butane canisters commonly found in Asian stores and used to run the butane stoves also commonly found in Asian outlets. Oh, and I have to quote something printed on the box, with exact spelling, this is a "High enganced rerusty nickel matirial re-hight temperature namp chimney" which is a feature not advertised in the product listing. In all I'm happy with the purchase and looking forward to trying it on our next camping trip. I especially like the fuel flexibility, its compact size, and its suitability as a night light that on its higher settings has ample brightness as a work light. 4 stars for now but if it breaks I'll come back and downgrade.

I've read so many good reviews so gave it a try, purchased one and.............Its a Great little lantern for the price. It lights up on the dime with a piezo, very well calibrated flame adjustment which enables a super bright or very low light. Unlike others posting reviews the supplied mantle worked fine. The cage is minimal which if not careful packing could easily break the globe. I put mine in a small cut off sock and stored it in the supplied little plastic case to better protect it in my back pack (make sure to wait for it to cool down before storing) . Also this unit is super light at 5.2 oz (6.3 with plastic case) in comparison to my older German made super reliable mini lantern mfg by Markill weighing in at 9.3 oz (14 oz with case). This is a total luxury for a backpack excursion but its weight may be offset if you were to eliminate battery powered mini lamp, which could not even compete on the lumen scale compared to this gas fired lamp.I am giving it 5 stars because of the quality to dollar ratio. I paid 4 times the amount for the Markill 10 years ago. Lets hope it holds up and I will re-post an update after it gets some real, true tested bush craft excursion time!UPDATE: I've taken this puppy on three backpacking journeys, a total of nine days. Purchased a butane to lindal adapter and it operates great. No since in burning isobutane (the expensive fuel designed for high altitude), butane canisters are economical and works efficiently. The little lantern has been flawless and when operating on low, it does not make an obnoxious whinning sound. The globe has not broken since I have been very careful when storing. The little plastic container with a sock trick has worked well. If the globe eventually breaks due to a mishap, a cheap and reliable remedy is to fabricate a cylinder out of super fine mesh screen, which can be purchased in a grocery store such as a splash screen for frying. Also make sure to carry extra mini lantern mantles and dont try to use big ones such as the ones designed for coleman style.It does add weight to my backpack but for me, since I am not thru hiking long distances its simply simply worth having light at camp. Everyone loves it and I make my son carry the extra fuel...He he !Overall, for the price, its a nice little guy!
