These work great but they are more expensive then one would hope. They are, in fact, harder than wood, but they are not harder than a staple. Avoid contact with metal objects of any kind. The tip on mine did not survive.

Me llegó una barrena de 1", que ya tenía de otro set, así que lo regresé. Son excelentes en general estas "brocas" barrenadoras, mucho más estables y rápidas que las de espada/planas. Cortan maderas duras con buen acabado sin astillar. Bajo una estrella la calificación por la medida incorrecta.

Looks like the picture is correct, 1/4" hex shank. The price is a little high. For a few dollars more I could have gotten a set of the regular flat wood boring bit. But I wanted to try something different. It worked well, nice clean hole, but I can't say if it's faster than the regular flat bit.
