Call me old fashioned, but I have the (almost) exact same tester that I bought when I was a young apprentice auto tech back in 1987. It hasn't failed me until I dropped it. It was well made, they actually used metal back then. This one is just a plastic pile of garbage. I guess it works but for how long?

Compression testers don't have to be the highest quality, but I was a little disappointed in the quality of this item. The backside of the gauge is made of chromed plastic. Seems like if you hit it hard enough or dropped it, it would crack. I had some issues with holding a seal with the way the gaskets are set up at the base. Initially I it would not take a reading, then I read sometimes dirt or some other foreign matter gets in the gauge and it needs to be opend to clean it. I did as the instructions said and it held compression and gave a reading. My readings seemed low 120 lbs per cylinder. I later took the car to my mechanic who did a compression test on his tool. He came up with 175 lbs per cylinder. He said I may have had a bad gauge or a bad seal. Either way, too much hassle to return, so I'm stuck with it to sell at the next garage sale.I would not recommend this item....
