It seems the market for MIDI interfaces has really shrunk in recent years, because most folks are connecting their gear via USB. However, some older gear requires an interface like this. I by started looking at products from M-Audio and MOTU, but this unit proved both less expensive, as well as plug and play. I'm using it with Windows 10, and it just works. That's all I really needed.Note: I don't usually leave reviews like this, and I don't even like that I bought this on Amazon, given their long track record of egregious business practices. However, purchasing it here allows me to get back to making music instead of spending hours trying to track down the right device.

so easy to use and solves a ton of repatching issues. The only thing that could possibly make this better would being able to work stand-alone without a PC, but the only interfaces that do that cost ten times as much

Easy install, recognised right away by my laptop. No issues patching 2 synths to the laptop. All good and exactly what I needed for the job.

I bought this to try to save my bricked synthesizer. It connected to my Mac (Mojave) just fine, no drivers needed as described. Ran a midi to the synth and the transfer worked as expected. Unfortunately my synth wasn't fixed, but that's no blame to this unit. It works and I'll be keeping it for other midi devices because it's sturdy and gives me 4x ins and outs. Great stuff.

Works great does the job, seems reliable so far and well priced. Doesn't turn off when computer is set to sleep that's my only minor issue.

Mini out worked just fine, but input was broken. The components felt cheap too and rattled inside. The lights worked for in and out, but input never actually transmitted data to my DAWs. They could see the interface, but no data can through. Three other interfaces from other manufacturers worked just fine using the same cables so I know it wasn't a config issue.

Works like described: Plug and Play. No drivers to install.I'm running Windows 10, using with Cakewalk Sonar Platinum and Overture 5.1.Both programs recognize the device.I was trying to use a MOTU FastLane, but the driver messed up my computer (would not shut down half the time, and boot up after that would take twice as long. It also prevented my audio interface software from operating. More importantly, I would have to uninstall driver, then reinstall it just to get it to work properly. After a shutdown and reboot, the FastLane would not work at all with either Sonar or Overture. Long ago I had Windows XP and FastLane worked fine with that, but apparently they have not updated their Windows driver software to work with Windows 10.This MIDI 4x4 works for my Windows 10 rig flawlessly, no driver needed. My computer now boots up and shuts down properly.I'm running a homebrew computer, an Asrock Z47 Extreme, Intel core i7, 3.5 ghz, 8 gb ram, seagate 2 tb enterprise drive

This is a fantastic box. Four MIDI IN and MIDI OUT. There is no "MIDI THRU", but I have never been a fan of daisy chaining, and with four discrete inputs you really don't need it anyway. It is a "class compliant" device, which means there are NO drivers or software to install or update. Ever! You just plug it in and your computer recognizes it immediately. Truly Plug-N-Play. It is super fast. I haven't had a single problem with latency or delays whatsoever. It is also built like a tank. Aluminum, well built, solid feeling. I am confident you could drive over this with your car and it would still function just fine.As MIDI interfaces go, you can certainly find much cheaper ones, but you wont find one as versatile and bulletproof. Spend a little more now, and this will be the last MIDI interface you ever buy.

First I'd give it 5 stars instead of 4 except for the first minor "issue," given below (To be fair, actually it is NOT an issue with function or performance, read on you'll see)My unit arrived a few days ago and functions as designed an described. ALL the lights work as expected (too bad a previous buyer had issues with this).-The blue power LED lights when connected to a PC- Each of the 4 red LEDS lights, individually as expected and blinks at the corresponding received data rate, anytime MIDI data are received on that MIDI input port (1, 2, 3, or 4 respectively.)- Likewise, anytime MIDI data are routed to any of the units 4 MIDI out ports that corresponding port green light blinks (again corresponding to the output MIDI data rate). Also the unit appears to be fully class complaint, that is, in Windows XP, 7, 8 and 10 plug and plug - no drivers need to be install. What wasn't clear in ad (and I'm not implying this was "hidden" ) are two minor items. Neither are a deal breakers for me but I will admit the first topic requires me to re-think/re-map how I connect "stuff" (this unit is replacing a really old MIDIMan 2x2 that finally gave up the ghost) :1- The unit while powered by USB 5 volts does NOT output 5 volts on any of the four output ports 5-PIN MIDI connections. Furthermore, even if 5V comes in on ports 1,2,3, or 4 - that 5 volts is not switched to the corresponding MIDI output port, or any output port. There must be isolation of any incoming 5V on any of the INPUTS (the USB connection or the MIDI ins) or it may be outputting the more recent "tree hugger" 3.3V DC . For most users, and in most uses this is a non-issue. HOWEVER, I have a few specialty MIDI "boxes" (one is a MIDI Solutions Breath control and another is a Anatek Pocket Merge (2 in - 1 out) ) and these MUST have 5V's or they don’t work). So if you are use to using specialty boxes (Breath Controller, MIDI routers, filters, mergers, most any MIDI Solutions boxes, etc.) that depend on 5V DC make sure your MIDI cable/MIDI signal flow from a known good 5V source to that specialty box is not interrupted by this unit BEFORE that specialty box gets its 5V's.2. - This item may or may not be a deal breaker for some folks and I'm just putting it out here EXPLICITLY instead of folks "assuming" a particular ability that is not there : The Inputs 1,2,3, and 4 are NOT mirrored on the respective outputs or any outputs, and this is AS EXPECTED - you normally would not want input also going to output. Even the MIDIMan 2x2 and the newer M-Audio versions 2x2, and 4x4, etc. don't do this UNLESS you push the front panel USB/MIDI thru switch. That switch essentially removes the PC from the unit and lets the inputs go right "thru" to the output. THIS UNIT has no such switch. Furthermore, there is no way to route ANY MIDI input (on any of the four inputs) to ANY of the 4 MIDI outputs without a PC connected via USB cable. So if PC is off or not connected - you cannot move any MIDI data into or out of the box.BTW it was never stated anywhere that this unit had a passive "thru" mode - if you assumed it did or does that is/was incorrect. Don't get me wrong, this is not some hidden "buyer beware" thing either, just be aware of this if you need a multi MIDI in to multi MIDI out box with un-powered or passive "thru" capability.
