Currently using it to test microwaves during real estate inspections. This product is much easier to use as well as carry compared to my old way of testing which was by using a shot glass filled with water and then having to measure the temperature of the water. Now I can merely place this product in the microwave, observe that it emits light while also observing that the microwave turntable rotates and simply snap my picture for documentation.

Make your home clients happy. This is a basic microwave tester that you can "wow" your home inspection clients with. No, it's certainly not a pro tester but it is a good visual indicator to show your inspection clients after doing a test with your actual meter. It works well and is simple to use. They do provide instructions, but they are very basic so if you don't know how a magnetron works then you may not understand this device. For that I would recommend that they have some sort of video instruction on how to use this and how it works.Make sure you don't run this without a load, a small glass of water will suffice, you don't want to be messing up the magnetron. We bought ours for $15 so not too bad of a price but there are cheaper ones out there.

Was not very sure how to use this tool but figured it out.Make sure you have something in the microwave other than the tester like a bowl of water. You leave the bits inside the acrylic housing.Place the whole tool next to the bowl.We have a turntable and it is cool to see it light up at the 12, 3 6, and 9 o'clock marks..You can also remove the turntable and test various spots.Pretty neat tool!

My goal for this order was to see if my microwave was steady when cooking at 100% and check for leaks all around the front and door. Since this tester is very simple, in my opinion it's not sensitive enough to test for small leaks. This review is based on a dozen or so trials in and around my large microwave. First, the business sized instruction card explains that the tester can not be left in the microwave for more than 15 seconds and can not be alone when the microwave is cooking. I mean some other "load", such as a mug of water, must be in the microwave at the same time. I kept the mug at or near the center for most of the trials. Following these directions, my 1500W microwave would cause one of more of the three tiny bulbs to shine red after about 3 or more seconds of 100% power operation. As the turntable rotates, the bulbs would go off for a split second and then on again. It's possible that the bulbs go off because they are blocked by the mug and also because the turntable moves them to a location where the waves aren't strong enough to keep them on. I suspect it's a combination of both. When I used the tester to check for leaks outside I would hold the tester near a specific spot or even touch the door from the outside while the microwave was operating. The bulbs never lighted and I suspect that small leaks would not be enough to light them up anyway. So my take is that the tester is only sensitive enough to prove the microwave is working but not how well. Because a load has to be present, the load can block the tester so it's hard to know if the waves of the microwave are fluctuating or steady. I'd say that just checking if the microwave is heating the mug of water after a given time accomplishes the same level of effectiveness as the tester although without the visual appeal. So the red bulbs are attention getting but the testing ability is not as sensitive as I was hoping for. I was actually considering rating this lower, but taking into account the price, I decided four stars was fair.
