A cute toy, but definitely not even remotely close to 1000x, probably not even 100x, sadly, no longer returnable now that we figured it out.

My granddaughter had so much fun using this from the moment she opened the box! She put it in her purse so she could examine everything, wherever she went.

Got four. One for each grandchild, and one for neighbor. They all loved them! Three are 5 years, and one is 10 years.

Great discovery tool for kids. Lets them take a microscope on the road. Great way to observe nature up close and in detail. Video image is crisp and clear. Easy to operate. Works great. My kid loves it. Great for observing plants and animals and learning about the world around us. Great for education and for fun. Highly recommend.

Traditional microscopes are amazing in their own right, and I'm definitely not getting rid of mine after getting this one. However, they create unnecessary 'friction' to discovery for kids in a number of ways:1. They are generally stationary - Plugged in to an AC outlet and/or sitting at a desk.2. They require prepping slides - This is a nice skill for a scientist, but not something kids really want to take time to do.3. Flipping between different lenses can cause issues (kids can sometimes shatter a glass slide by conking the lens into it)This product addresses all those issues by giving a portable, single lens, battery powered microscope that can take pictures and video. There are a few of these on the market, and they are a brilliant idea. Now you can take your microscope out into the garden! My kids have been having fun with this.I have taken off 1 star because I've used both this version and another version that was taller, with the screen on top of it. I preferred the taller layout to this 'camcorder' format for a couple reasons. One, it was easier to visualize the placement of the lens - And two, it was easier to take pictures because the 'OK' button was positioned in the middle of the pad. With this, when I want to take a picture I need to move my thumb down to the OK button, and that tends to shift the whole unit a bit... It's more difficult to keep everything stable on top of the specimen while taking a picture. Also, the actual visual quality looked a little more clear on the 'upright' version. All that said, this format is more versatile... You can use it to take regular pictures and videos - It will focus at long range as well as at macro range.I will say the 1000x seems like a stretch... The actual lens is not performing that magnification, but it is gained by a form of digital zoom, which actually looks better than most digital zooms I've seen, but it seems a little odd to make claims of magnification on a microscope where the lens itself doesn't line up with the claim.Overall, this would make a great gift for a potential future scientist, or just any kid who is ready to explore!

Its microscope feature is the best part of this 3-in-1 camera. I thought its Amazon product claims of 1000x microscopic magnification was an exaggeration, when I was 1st fiddling with its buttons. The video and camera functions were fine but the microscope feature was blurry for me. However, my older kids read its manual and figured out how to magnify its microscope clearly, which is to:#1. push "M" button#2. push the down arrow button to scroll to "Settings" & then press "OK" button#3. push the down arrow button to scroll to "Image quality" & then press "OK" button#4. choose a higher image quality by scrolling down with the down buttom & then press "OK" button after. My kids chose the highest quality (10M).#5. push "M" button on left side to go back to either "Photo" or "Video" mode & then press "OK"#6. To zoom in or zoom out the image, use the white scroll wheel on the right side of the camera. They were able to magnify our cat's hair, oatmeal, their various hair strands, and leaves and view them all up close. Loved hearing their "ooh"s, "aah"s, "wow"s, and "ewww"s, from being able to microscopically inspect things with this camera. This camera is made for kids and they were simple enough for my teens to figure it out and teach my younger ones how to use this carefully and effectively. This camera comes with a mini-SD card storage to save images on. Can be deleted as well as transferred to their laptops. This is a good practical-science camera that curious young scientists will enjoy.Greatly recommended.

We have a great grandson who comes to visit us out in the countryside from time to time. When he comes to stay he loves that we now have this for him. He likes to go out into the out-building area, and in the fields to find things to look at. He's come in and shown us some of what he's been observing by using the camera...all kinds of insects, plants, etc. This is such a great little device, and so very versatile. It's nice to see something that gets him out enjoying nature, as well as learning about it. It's all the vendor has listed, and more. We really enjoy being included in his good time as well. Easy to use, has everything needed to get started, and the price is great. He really enjoys this.
