I had issues with my first item so I had to deal with customer service to get a replacement. That wasn't terrible, but could have been a better experience timewise (lots of send us pictures, now deface the product, etc.). The item comes with batteries already in the compartment, which means that it could be leaking in there (my original had this problem), so while I love batteries included I think it would be better if they offered them sealed in the box and let you put them in yourself. The toy itself is pretty sturdy and is easy to see on the large display. The male voice is clear and easy to understand as he gives directions on how to use each option and gives information about what you are doing/seeing. There is a volume button on the top of the microscope which is nice and appreciated. There is also a place for a microSD card on the side of the monitor area. The D-pad joystick does not move much at all which could be a problem over time with younger children. The slides are double-sided and easy to switch out. When in microscope mode a bright light turns on and after the walk-through for how to use it you can explore your own specimens, including taking pictures, which are stored in the gallery. This is a great starter for interest in science, exploring, and microscope use. Not having ocular lenses will also make it easier for younger children to use this toy.The downside is that it isn't very entertaining so it might not capture your child's attention or be something they gravitate to often. Right now my 5-year-old grandson just isn't that interested in it. I'm hoping that will change with time, especially when spring and summer get here and we can take it outside to help explore more. The magnification is blurry at times, but does clear up and shows colors and edges well (I used a piece of flower to test it). I feel this toy is easy enough for a 5-year-old, but mature enough for 8-year-olds.

I bought this product for my five-year-old grandson for Christmas. We didn't open it until January 3, 2025. We were very disappointed that the installed batteries had rusted and the microscope couldn't function. I returned the product and another was sent quickly. It appears to work and I will give it to my grandson on Friday. It looks like a fun way to learn. I didn't give it an overall rating as he hasn't used it yet.

It is a little basic as far as the slides but my nephew loves it. It is build strong and the picture is good. The magnifying ability is good not as high as I would like but it is great for small kids. It is good for educational values and he thinks it is cool.

This is a great microscope for kids. It is portable and is very easy to set up even for kids. Kids can pick up any sample and try to look at it. It keeps my 8-year-old engaged. She has picked up rocks and flowers to look at them under the microscope. It also has some prebuilt slides that are informative. It has options to take pictures of the sample that my kids love.It has some games that may not be useful from the perspective of parents but keep kids engaged with the instrument. This does not have higher magnification and may not be as useful for bigger kids or any scientific work but it is a good device to bring interest in the field.Overall, of all the microscopes I have used, this is probably the best one for kids.

This product is awesome. I play with my 5 year old daughter and it keeps her entertained. Comes with an empty slide so you can find stuff around the house to look under a microscope. Educational is a plus!

My class loves this microscope! They get excited using it because they can use it all by themselves. The teacher does not have to assist them in anyway. I explained to the group of 5 year olds how to use it and they have not stopped exploring items. The focus knob easily adjusts to make the slides very clear I also love that it explains what they are looking at, they are able to find items to look at and explore. It has motivated them to learn more about insects and animals. If you want a microscope for kids like 4-12 years of age you will be glad you got it. Adults play with it too I've shared it with other teachers who love the clarity an ease of using it. I will buy this item in the future if it needs replacing.

I’m not sure what some of these other reviewers are talking about, they obviously didn’t try the thing out. The microscope comes with a bunch of digital slides with pre-loaded images you can explore and tons of information. It’s a great learning tool! Each digital slide has videos and images to explore. The microscope also has games and trivia pre-loaded. Then on top of that, it comes with two blank slides that you can put your own specimens in to examine - one flat slide and one pocket slide for larger things like small rocks, etc. You put it in microscope mode and you’re able to zoom, focus, and take photos of the items you’re looking at. Here’s a slide with an eyelash with mascara on it (eww lol) and another of a tiny aphid (dead) we found on a plant. Great images, clear screen, perfect for kids and best for even adults to play around with. Absolutely useable and really fun! Our 5 year old has been at it for hours now since unwrapping for Xmas this morning. Great educational toy for children and adults alike!
