I have a really old microscope that I got as a kid. I’m an old guy now with aging eyes and let’s just say that my old scope is built solid but lacks modern features. I wanted something that would allow me to examine closely my knife blades after sharpening them. My old microscope only lights from below which did not illuminate the blade edges very well. This one lights from below and above. The other thing I love with this is that you can rotate the filter lens and have it produce a background color which makes the blade edge stand out even better under the microscope. The grandkids love using the microscope to view the slide samples that came with the kit. It is very educational for them and just produces a whole new perspective to their little world around them. They even talked their grandmother into producing a blood sample so they could look at it under the microscope.The phone mount is a little awkward to use but I was able to get it to work eventually. Being able to see the magnified image on the phone is extremely helpful as offers an alternative means for viewing a zooming.I was talking myself into and out of getting this thing but overall I’m happy I took the leap and upgraded from my old microscope.

I was so excited to get my first microscope! I was tracking my package closely because I couldn’t wait to start using it. When it arrived, I was thrilled. The pre-made specimen slides, made it easy to start exploring right away. My natural eyelashes get in the way when looking into the eyepiece — irritating. I didn’t realize how tricky it would be to adjust the eyepieces at first, but after some trial and error (and a little help from Google), I learned that each eye sees things slightly differently due to light and angle. Once I got the hang of it, I could see the specimens clearly with both eyes, and it was fascinating!Setting it up was pretty simple, though I did have to watch a quick YouTube video to figure out how to move the slide under the light correctly. Now that I have it working, I’m eager to start experimenting, especially with things like water and my own DNA. I’ve always been fascinated by Dr. Emoto’s work on how words and frequencies affect water, and now I can test it myself!Overall, I’m incredibly happy with this microscope and excited for all the discoveries ahead!
