This is the tool you need to set ignition and cam timing on a 2.3 mazda engine (Ford engine) The crank is not keyd so as soon as you loosen the crank bolt it is out of time. The only modification I did to the tool was drill and tap 2 holes in the bar to store the 2 crank stop bolts. (The short one is for the 2.3)

This tool is pretty straight forward had no problem using it lined up every thing perfectly you need this tool because the harmonic balancer does not have a key way to lock it in place the Harmonic balancer on these Mazda/fFord engines are a tightened fit meaning when you tightened the Harminic Balancer bolt thats when the Harmonic balancer is locked in place so if you're not familiar with this engine like me this tool will do the job very simple to use.

If you do this job you will see that when your valve cover comes off that the end of your cams will not be in alignment. This makes it impossible to use a straight flat plate to align your cams. If you download the AllDataDiy.com manual it will show pictures of what you need (along with part numbers for the tools) and step by step instructions. The Haynes manual doesn't even give clues on what you will need.

Removed harmonic balancer for replacement on a 07 Mazda 6(non turbo) without knowing it was timed with the crank position sensor due to limited information. Installed harmonic back due to incorrect part and was getting codes for timing. Ordered TDC pins and rescheduled repair. Once tool arrived, followed procedures and worked perfect only took 30 mins.
