About this item

  • LIGHT AND PORTABLE: the Meinl Darbuka (sometimes called Middle-Eastern goblet drum) is easy to carry around and play while delivering a wide tonal range; get crisp "Tek" strokes and resonant "Doum" strokes that cut through easily
  • WHY IT MATTERS: it's perfect for bringing to drum circles, gigs, or classrooms if you don't want to carry heavier, bulkier drums; the variety of tones it produces can support a live acoustic band and are fun to explore playing on your own
  • DRIVING THE SOUND: made with a cast aluminum shell and weather-resistant synthetic head for consistent sharp tone; this combination of materials has a snappy response, even at a lower volume
  • ZOOM IN: the exterior decoration is hammered by hand and looks beautiful on display; there will be slight variations in the hand made design, making each drum one-of-a-kind
  • OF NOTE: comes with a tuning key to make quick pitch adjustments; you can also unscrew the tension rods completely to change heads in moments
  • BY THE NUMBERS: the aluminum shell measures 7 3/4" W x 13 1/3” H; head measures 7 1/4"
  • THE BOTTOM LINE: this is a solid, dependable, lightweight drum with roots in Middle-Eastern dance music and applications for just about anything from drum circles to acoustic shows to contemporary pop music
  • THE BIG PICTURE: Meinl is a family-owned musical instrument manufacturer and brand established 1951 in Germany; our expert German designers have deep relationships with our builders to ensure you're delivered the absolute finest quality

MEINL darbukas are made in the tradition of the original, esoteric goblet-shaped drums found in music from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Southern Asia. Our darbukas are constructed from thin shells in various metals, each metal giving the different models their special timbre. The head is secured and tuned with external rings set close to the shell, in the Turkish-style. Light yet powerful, the darbukas have a deep full bass. They are well suited for high-pitched snapping sounds as well as a wide range of articulated "doum" and "tak" strokes.

I would recommend this darbuka. It sounds loud and clear with detailed sounds depending on where its struck. Its light weight and evidently hand made. The rim is heavy and stable though. Get one.

Me gusto pero sería conveniente que las medidas fueran comparativas ya que al.momento de comprar no tenemos una escala para medir.

When I saw someone using the Darbuka drum at one of our drum circle classes I just knew I had to have one of my own. After checking on Amazon I found this one (Meinl percussion Darbuka with hand hammered aluminum shell make in Turkey) and purchased it. I have had a few basic lessons on how to use the Darbuka and I found it to be a fantastic drum. A special tool also came with it to tighten and adjust the drum head.I love practicing my drumming using the Darbuka. My only complaint, which is my fault, was not looking at the different price ranges of this drum on line. I could have saved almost 50% what I paid for this one; nevertheless, I love this drum and am glad I bought it.If you are seeking a Darbuka drum you may want to check out this product.Rating: 5 Stars. It doesn't make any "musical" sound. Maybe because of the type of material. I like it as decorative item though.

Think doumbek light. Not nearly as loud or cutting as a doumbek, good for softer arrangements with frame drums and riqqs, when you want to bring the volume and intensity down at bit. It’s a quality drum. Don’t forget that the technique is a bit different than a doumbek, primarily for you your non-dominant hand. The head/edge is different from a doumbek, so you have to adjust your technique.

This hand drum has a nice tone and surprising volume for its size. I bring it to my regular drum circle to share (after I got a larger, full-size doumbek). It looks nice and is easy to carry around on a hike or to the park. The head is a little small for my large hands, the side lugs can occasionally get in the way. Also, the metal body is a little slippery which can sometimes make it tricky to hold for long periods of time. I have thought about putting some textured tape in a couple places to help with that. All-in-all a very good drum for the price. I am happy with it.

I just received my darbuka 15 minutes ago. I took it out of the box, placed it on my lap, and began to play. I'm in LOVE! It's lightweight. The head is the perfect size for my small hands. The rim doesn't hurt my fingers. The sound is superb. The deep bass sound resonates. The higher sound on the rim also resonates. I simply adore the designs on the body of this darbuka. I received a key for the purpose of adjusting this instrument. I have no need to adjust this darbuka. I only have a need to play it! I also received a small, professionally created book with pictures and the names of the other instruments. I am going to stick with this darbuka. Yay!

Used one of these in Northern Cyprus and was amazed by the sounds so just had to have one. Took a little adjusting and tuning but this is done easily. Then when you've got the sound its great.

The website measurements for this foot tall drum are way off. Amazon doesn't seem too worried about changing the measurements either, so don't be setting your heart on a nice drum! Go to kmart and buy a toy one. Theiy're bigger.,
