I am a professional electrician, and I advise everyone who wants to make a cheap insulation measurement. Switch 5000 volts immediately. This will allow you to make sure that everything is fine.

I bought this insulation tester in June 21st 2021. I used it one time and after using it I pulled the batteries and put it away. I needed it August 18th 2024 . I put new batteries in and it was totally dead.Yes I checked the batteries and the polarity . I took it apart to see if there was a fuse blow or anything burnt. There was neither. Personally I wouldn't by another one but maybe you'll have better luck.

Qualités stricto sensu de meghomettre, du point de vue de la lecture des valeurs un GROS " A CHIER " , mais comme indiqué dans l'intitulé, détournement d'utilisation, parfait pour la localisation auditive et visuelle du défaut d'isolement, un GROS IMPECCABLE, ATTENTION TOUTEFOIS, dans cette configuration, tester à valeur progressive, si vous attaquez directement a 5000v , vous pouvez générer plutôt que détecter un défaut d'isolement. Pour être plus clair, si il y avait une faiblesse non impactante , a 5000v cela se transforme en réel défaut.Pour la défense de cette appareil qui dans mon cas est vraiment une GROSSE AUBAINE, il me faudrait débourser entre 20 et 100 fous son prix.

Very solid instrument. It works as intended. I cannot confirm its ultimate accuracy but it does the basic job of measuring insulation integrity. As with all instruments of its type the correct testing procedure must be followed to avoid an electrical shock.

Low quality but it works... Just be careful and make sure the "Test" button returns to the off position.. I got zapped because the button was off centered in the hole and stayed on after I released it. I returned it and bought a Supco. SMJ 23

It works. I’ve shot some pretty decent size transformers, a lot of copper and still tested accurately when compared to a much more expensive name brand. I’ve tested using both 5kV & 500v. One flaw I’ve noticed is if you turn the dial too fast the screen doesn’t come on. Weird, but be gentle when turning it on and it works every time.

It's an adequate meter, and worth having on hand for occasional use. I never saw it read completely open, and had to rely on the light to indicate continuity. I used it to diagnose a motor that wasn't reading as grounded with my 9v meter, and this picked it up. I'm glad I have it, but it's not a regular use tool.
