"Fusible interfacing" is a heat-reactive fabric that bonds with materials, enhancing stability and support in garment production. It melts at specific temperatures, adheres to the fabric, and forms a strong bond upon cooling.

Various applications

fusible interfacing for sewing

Fusible interfacing has a wide range of uses in garment making, including reinforcing seams, shaping clothing, creating skirt pleats, and enhancing the appearance of collars, pockets, or cuffs. You can use it to fully unleash your creativity!

How to Properly Use Single-Sided Fusible Interfacing

Using single-sided fusible interfacing in garment construction is a technique that enhances stability and support, particularly with medium-weight interlining for areas needing reinforcement like shoulders, collars, or cuffs. Light-weight interlining prioritizes comfort over structure.

Light-weight & Medium-weight

Fusible Interfacing for Sewing

Medium-weight interlining is typically made from thicker materials. In contrast, light-weight interlining materials are thinner and lighter, but they enhance the breathability and comfort of the garment.

When using fusible interfacing in garment construction, there are several important considerations to ensure the best results and avoid potential issues

Choose the Right Type: Select the appropriate fusible interfacing for the fabric you are working with. Different fabrics may require different types of interfacing in terms of weight and composition.

Test First: Always test the interfacing on a scrap piece of the fabric before applying it to the actual garment. This will allow you to adjust the iron temperature or pressure if necessary and avoid potential mistakes on the final product.

Protect the Iron: Use a clean pressing cloth or parchment paper between the iron and the fusible interfacing to protect the iron plate from the adhesive and to prevent any potential transfer of color or texture from the fabric.

Apply Even Heat and Pressure: Ensure that the iron is moved evenly across the interfacing to distribute heat and pressure consistently. This will help achieve a uniform bond and prevent localized melting or wrinkling.

Cool Down Properly: After applying the interfacing, allow the garment to cool down completely before handling or moving it. This will ensure that the bond is fully set and prevent any distortion.

Avoid Reheating: Once the interfacing has been bonded, avoid reheating the area excessively, as this can weaken the bond or cause the adhesive to melt again.

Handle with Care: Fusible interfacing can be delicate, especially when it's hot. Handle the garment carefully to avoid stretching or misaligning the pieces.

Clean the Iron: After using the iron with fusible interfacing, make sure to clean it thoroughly to remove any residual adhesive. This will prevent any buildup on the iron plate that could affect future use.

Store Properly: Keep fusible interfacing in a cool, dry place away from heat sources and direct sunlight. This will prevent the adhesive from deteriorating and ensure it remains effective for future use.

The quality was better than I expected. The thickness was just right and it was well worth the cost.

I ordered this from Amazon because it is so hard to find in stores. I hesitated because I'm picky about my sewing supplies, but this is a very good quality, easy to use product. I will order again.

I bought this interfacing for handbags, but it is more suitable for garment construction. It's lovely for collars and necklines as well as cuffs or anywhere else in a handmade garment needs a little more support. So, I gave it 4 stars because it performed very well in clothing, but not the purpose for which it was purchased..

I got both for light weight and medium weight and both are too thick for their corresponding purpose. The one for light weight can be used for medium weight fabric and the one for medium weight can be used fir heavy weight fabric.

I make a lot of things that require interfacing or need stabilizing. This product is very easy to use. I never iron directly on it. I cover it with a piece of parchment paper and then iron on that.It sticks very well. It is light weight, so if I need more stability, I simply add another layer. It stays put and has a nice feel to it.I have not had any issues with it.It is a good quality stabilizer that does exactly what I need it to do. The performance is very good!

When making zipper pencil bags (I'm making a LOT), this narrow width is so much easier to work with. It irons on nicely and is a good weight for what I'm doing.I have used it for only a few days so can't comment on anything relating to how well it washes or stands up to use. I would buy it again in a wider width but for what I am working on now, this is the perfect width.
