I use it when using hole saws. I drill the pilot hole using a regular (¼') bit. Then I use a piece of rod in the hole saw in place of the drill bit.

product arrived bent although packaged well with no visible damage to external or internal cardboard boxes.

Not very straight, has .008" runout mostly 1.5" from the end. Too much to be used as an axle or as a tool on a lathe. You will not be cutting this with anything other than an abrasive wheel or diamond saw blade. It is tool steel. If it wasn't bent, it would get a 5 star rating. Finish is quite smooth and it appears to be corrosion resistant.I bought this to cut threads into, but it is harder than any file so I will not attempt to use a HSS die on it.
