A Statement of Pride...Simple yet strong, the Dover Mail Post serves as a perfect and warm invitation to retrieve your mail at the end of the drive.
From the Manufacturer
Simple yet strong, the Dover Mail Post serves as a perfect and warm invitationto retrieve your mail at the end of the drive. Mayne mail posts install easily over a standard 4x4 wood post. Bury about 2-3ft in the ground and leave 4ft above the ground. Slide the decorative sleeve over the post, attach the paper holder arm to the post, and then secure your mailbox of choice to the arm. Mailboxes can be bolted directly to this arm using a standard nut and bolt combination.

Love the look and ease of installation however it was missing any hardware. It was supposed to come with it and I had to return the whole thing to correct the issue. Rather than doing that I bought my own at lowes.

I had to start from scratch and install a new 4X4 because it needed to be further back from the curb that my old model. I had to drill new holes in the bottom of the large mailbox because the standard holes were too far apart for the narrow paper slot. I hope the material holds up to sunlight and doesn't fade quickly.

This post looks great installed for a few months now. In the end, I did not secure the mailbox to the post as instructed as it was very flimsy and started to sag with a quality steel mailbox attached. I ended up screwing through the back of the mailbox through the plastic post and into the wood support post, which now is very solid and doesn't sag when full of mail. Hopefully the plastic holds up in the sun.

Great product! Makes a statement at the curb. Very easy to install, but I did need some help with Mayne 580D-BK No Dig Ground Anchor, we have rocks mixed in the ground. But the rest I did myself. I think it looks really really nice. Sets our house/mailbox apart from they neighbors. This is the second time I've used this and the no dig ground anchor. But you DO need a 4x4 post as well. Highly recommend both, Mayne Dover mail post and no dig anchor.

April 2015: I just installed the white colored post in a snap and it looks great, highly recommended. I added the Gibraltar HM16NL01 mailbox with this for reference. Address numbers are not included. This post is much better quality than anything that comes would come from Step2 or similar. There are no visible seams in the vinyl, it is a fairly thick gauge, and the corners are well-defined. Our mail woman came by while I was finishing installation and told me how great it looked. Several neighbors in our new development already stopped by and commented on this as well. This with a nice mailbox added to it can do a lot to add curb-appeal to your home.Installation was incredibly simple and took about 2 hours in total with typical tools. A couple of things to note:- This is a well-made vinyl shell intended to slip over a pressure treated 4x4 post. You will likely need to stop by your local home improvement store and pick up a new 4x4x8 post to install for this. Ours that was in place for our old, crappy Step2 mailbox/post combo was too short to accommodate this post because the out-hanging arm needs to be drilled into the post. This is very important and could make your project more difficult if your previous post was cemented in and/or too short.- Given the above note, I would absolutely not recommend using a simple post anchor with this alone. This post is sturdy and well-made, but I would not trust it on a hot summer day with a heavy mailbox. Seriously, spend the $10 and 30 minutes installing on a new treated 4x4 post.- I have no idea what mailbox would line up with the holes in the arm, but it's probably not going to be any mailbox you purchase. Expect to have to drill holes in the bottom of a new mailbox to install this. To do this, we put the mailbox in place on the arm and ran a small drill bit up the holes through the newspaper slot to scratch drill marks into the bottom of the mailbox. Drilled through with a 1/4" bit (instructions recommended 3/8") This took about 45 minutes of the 2 hours I stated to install this. Again, we used the Gibraltar HM16NL01 mailbox found here on Amazon. It's a large steel mailbox and sits on it quite well.- The newspaper slot is quite small and my installation with 1/4" x 2" bolts and wing nuts comes through the top of the mail slot area a good 1/2" and makes it a bit smaller. I imagine if you get one or more newspapers delivered (whoever still does that) they will end up crammed in there and caught on your hanging bolts from the mailbox.I added pictures after the installation. Honestly, I spent more time on the review than the project.

I replaced a basic mailbox post with this product. Most of the rigidity comes from the 4X4 post that is anchored into the ground. Prior to installing this post I had used a ground anchor that simply was not adequate resulting in a flimsy offering. I definitly recommend digging the hole and anchoring it in concrete. My mail carrier really likes it. The only drawback is the mailbox mount. If you plan to use a slightly larger mailbox that is more than the standard width you will have to get creative on how you mount it. None of the universal mounts from the local home improvement stores fit. I fabricated one out of wood and all is well. Nice looking when finished.

Finally got the post installed and its classy look is just what I needed to replace the old plastic one that is now gone. Was mistaken about one thing, it requires a 4 to 5 foot 4 X 4 to install, I had thought I could just take the old one down and put the new one over the existing post but I had to set a new 4 X 4 to complete the project.
