They are used to create right hand threads in a range of materials. It is available in two different ANSI standards: UNC (Unified Coarse) and UNF (Unified Fine. The premium high speed steel material provides long tool life. The straight flutes are suitable for threading through holes and blind or bottoming holes.

Bought this to clean up some threads on some 5/8 nf threads and it did that with ease. Not sure how robust it would be in any production work but for intermittent shop work should perform fine.

It appears to be made of quality steel. I typically work with very hard/exotic woods and often secure some joints with threaded bolts. This tap made nice clean cuts in my test piece.

Shipping was fast. Used the 1 1/4" tap to rethread a hole that had been stripped and damaged threads. The tap worked fine and bolt went back in as it should have. Only used the tap one time and wasn't a heavy job, but worked great for what I needed.
