I was thinking about getting spiked shoes, but when I saw this manual aerator, it looked like the better option. The spiked shoes looked like they could cause you to trip possible breaking an ankle or leg.The instructions say you only need an adjustable wrench to assemble this, but I needed two adjustable LOCKING pliers to get the 3 handles pieces together. The instructions show that you only need to twist the 3 sections into each other, but good luck with that. The fit was way too tight. Once I got an adjustable plier LOCKED on tight to each section, I was finally able to get the 3 pieces inserted into each other.The working end with spikes rotated well. My winter ground is too hard to know how far these 2" spikes will go into the ground, but I think after a watering or a light rain, they will do fine especially -- if you add water or sand to it.It's not going to be as easy as using a commercial gas-powered aerator would be, but I think it's fine for a small yard.I gave this manual aerator 3 stars because I think the price is on the high side for a few pieces of painted metal. If it gets my lawn looking healthier, I'd gladly give it 4 stars. We'll see.

This has Sharp spikes that sink into the ground with pressure. I am not a fan of the handle. It is more like a broom handle, and I prefer a handle that is more like a shovel.

Assembly was straightforward. It's also made of heavy-duty metal that has been welded together strongly. I appreciate how the drum may be rolled as-is or made heavier by adding sand or water. I tried using it as is, and the maneuver is not very smooth due to the unusual design surrounding where the drum connects to the handle. If that's taken care of, this is an excellent product.

This little thing is not only saving my back but feet as well. I don't have to use the shoe ones any more. Works great and easy to set up.

We got it for our dad and he loves it ! Came in well packaged, and it was so easy to assemble . Love how heavy you can make it , and those long spikes gets the job done .

This thing is HUGE! The spikes are nice and sharp so it will easily break ground. This lawn roller is super heavy. But if not heavy enough you can add water or sand the barrel of the roller to make it heavier. It’s very simple to assemble and this is going to be perfect to plant grass seed this spring. It’s really nice- I am very happy to have it and would definitely order again.
