The Manfrotto 171 Mini Clamp sports two 5/8" receivers for a baby pin, extension or spigot, allowing mounting of small light heads, ball heads and brackets. One receiver is secured with a t-screw while the other uses a setscrew. I’m guessing Manfrotto didn’t use two t-screws because there’s not enough space for two large handles. However, a small t-screw fits perfectly so I substituted a 6mm winged screw to make the socket more convenient to use, e.g., .The 171 is basically a modified c-clamp: simply turn the big knob to tighten down and you're good. It's optimized to grip tubular objects like tripod legs (rounded indents in grip surfaces) but works fine on flat surfaces such as bookshelves and chair legs. I often use it to mount a small hair light on backdrop rods and it grips the tube like glue.If you don’t own any baby pins or spigots, consider the instead. It’s the 171 bundled with a 013 Double End Stud spigot and is less expensive than buying the two components separately.All in all the 171 is a useful and well designed clamp for light duty use: excellent fit and finish, lightweight and much more camera bag friendly than a Super Clamp.
