The XVJ05Z is engineered to deliver the power and performance of a corded jig saw but without the hassles of a cord. It is ideal for professional woodworkers, cabinetry makers, specialized residential construction workers and any pro-contractor seeking a best-in-class cordless jig saw. The XVJ05Z features an ergonomically designed barrel grip, which is closer to the work surface for more precise cuts.
The XVJ05Z has 3 orbital settings plus straight cutting for faster and more accurate cuts in a variety of materials. The variable 5-speed control dial (800-3,000 SPM) enables the user to match the speed of the tool to the application. In addition, the efficient brushless motor is electronically controlled to optimize battery energy use for up to 50% longer run time per charge than similar non-brushless tools. Electronic controls efficiently use battery energy to match the changing demands of the application for increased power and speed when needed. And since there are no carbon brushes, the brushless motor runs cooler and more efficiently for longer life.
Convenience features include a “tool-less” blade change system that allows for faster blade installation and removal, On/Off button with a separate lock button for workpiece protection, and dual L.E.D. lights to illuminate the work area. The base bevels and locks from 0° to 45° left or right for more precise bevel cuts. It weighs only 5.0 lbs. with an 18V LXT® 5.0Ah battery (sold separately).

On off button is located on left side of the body and is it easy to activate the switch while sawing especially when cutting curves.

I'd been looking at buying a battery powered jigsaw for awhile. It seems like whenever I need one on the jobsite, I'm unplugging and plugging in the jigsaw to utilize it.Yesterday when the new one arrived I actually went to get it, as I was doing a bunch if cut outs around 4x4s.I cut 1000 times better with this style grip for whatever reason! I really don't know if it's the grip change, the saw being shaped different, or the not fighting a cord while cutting. I'm able to cut more square and definitely more straight.Highly recommend.

This replaced a Rigid corded model that was made in Germany, and cutting efficiency of the makita is its equal but with greater maneuverabilityI’ve only used on softwood and with fine results made better by the easily adjustable speed and blade pitch for clean cuts

It does what it’s supposed to do. My only issue is the plastic sawdust attachment has a weak point and broke very easily hence the 4 stars

The Makita XVJ05Z compact 18v Jigsaw is Amazing! When I saw that Makita made an 18v compact version of their barrel grip jigsaw, I had to get it. I've had the same compact jigsaw in the 12v version (VJ05R1J) for years and the only thing that I wished it had was more battery life. This thing has it and is also more powerful. I would definitely recommend this Jigsaw.
