Another fabulous tool from Makita. smooth operation, decent battery life, solid as a rock! Only gripe might be (with all the handheld planers I've used) is that you can't go too deep, like if you were essentially doing a wide Dado, you can get like a heavy 1/16th deep, then it starts to ride on the belt housing. I know, use the right tool for the job and all, but hey, thats how she goes. Otherwise, it's sweet

Work good and no cord, nice addition to my extensive Makita cordless kit. Takes a little time to get used to how it cuts, be careful on where you apply pressure at end of cut.

Très bon rabot avec le sérieux de Makita.Domage que le sac à poussière ne soit pas vendu avec ce rabot.

With respect to performance I can't add to the other positive reviews. It is the quintessential Makita cordless tool. It works like a corded tool. Sure there are limitations with respect to the battery life but who doesn't have multiple chargers and batteries? What is missing from the reviews is help in identifying the accessories that apply to this tool. The manual mentions a dust bag and an elbow for the dust port but doesn't give the part numbers. Another review here gives help in that respect. In researching this topic I found the Australian website has a long list of accessories however it doesn't give part numbers. These came from the corded KP0800 model description. The KP0800 is only the corded version, any accessories that fits it will also fit the LXPK01. Here is the list with estimated prices, I'll add model numbers as I identify them. As of now AMZ does not carry them, I'll add AMZ links when they do. Also there are interesting options available such as different blade angles as per Makita Canada far below. I expect there are different angles for those work wood with tearout proclivities.Mini TCT Blades 82mm 2 pack D-17239 $19.99 AmazonPlaner Carbide Blade Set D-17223 $44.00 AmazonHSS Blades 82mm 2 packSharpening Holder 123004-6 $8.00Blade Gauge Assembly 123010-1 $15.00Straight Guide Rule 165581-2 $15.00 **Depth GuideBevel Guide 123060-6 $24.66 AmazonClamp SetSocket Wrench 9mmExtension Guide SetEdge FenceDust Bag Assembly 122793-0 $30.00 *Dust Extracting Nozzle 451329-1 $15.87 Amazon *Directional Elbow 416368-8 $3.00 *Sharpening Holder Assembly* (read all) If your dust outlet is Makita blue plastic then you will need the Dust Extracting Nozzle which is black plastic. Pictures of the KP0800 shows the nozzle attached. This nozzle point straight to the side which makes work difficult if you put a dust bag on. The directional elbow changes the dust flow to the rear and facilitates the use of a dust bag. Now that I've looked at Makita Canada things are a bit fuzzy. Evidently there are two different configurations of the body. Some have a blue molded dust port and others require an additional black plastic part that is attached with a screw. Makita Canada accessories are noted as below. Will combine the two when time permits.** This needs to have a knob in the front to lock it down. The KP0800 has the knob, the LXKP01 doesn't.ACCESSORIESA01 123010-1 BLADE GAUGE ASS'Y 1 PC.A01 INC. 911228-4 PAN HEAD SCREW M5X18 2 PC.A01 INC. 411086-3 GAUGE PLATE 1 PC.A02 782209-3 SOCKET WRENCH 9 1 PC.A03 165581-2 GUIDE RULE 1 PC.A03 265785-7 THUMB SCREW M5X10(FOR A03) 1 PC.A05 824892-1 PLASTIC CARRYING CASE 1 PC.A05 INC. 163455-1 LATCH 2 PC.A05 INC. 419360-3 HANDLE 1 PC.A06 D-16966 82MM TCT MINI PLANER BLADE 35 DEGREE 1 SETA06 793322-2 3-1/4" MINI PLANER BLADE 50 DEGREE 1 SETA06 A-82921 3-1/4" MINI PLANER BLADE 65 DEGREE 1 SETA06 D-17239 SET PLATE&MINI BLADE SET 1 SETA07 122793-0 DUST BAG ASS'Y (use with #451329-1 Nozzle) 1 PC.A07 INC. 410602-8 FASTENER 1 PC.A08 123004-6 SHARPENING HOLDER ASS'Y 1 PC.A08 INC. 251920-3 CAP SQUARE NECK BOLT M6X30 2 PC.A08 INC. 341003-8 PRESSURE PLATE 1 PC.A08 INC. 934301-3 WING NUT M6 2 PC.A09 123060-6 GUIDE RULE ASS'Y 1 PC.A09 INC. 923211-9 CAP SQUARE NECK BOLT M5X12 2 PC.A09 INC. 911221-8 PAN HEAD SCREW M5X16 2 PC.A09 INC. 934201-7 WING NUT M5 2 PC.A10 191725-8 EXTENSION GUIDE SET 1 SETA10 INC. 911201-4 PAN HEAD SCREW M5X8 2 PC.A10 INC. 252045-6 SQUARE NUT M5 2 PC.A11 193540-6 SET PLATE 82 SET 1 SETA12 416368-8 ELBOW 1 PC.A13 451329-1 NOZZLE 1 PC.A14 794061-7 DRESSING STONE 150-1200 1 PC.** This needs to have a knob in the front to lock it down. I love the Makita line of Li+ battery tools, not because they're better than Bosch or Milwaukee or Dewalt, but because they have VARIETY and DEPTH in their tool choices. My kit now includes: 1/4" hex impact driver, 1/2" hammer drill, right-angle impact driver, angle grinder, jigsaw, circular saw, reciprocating saw, power plane, AND...wait for it...a FLASHLIGHT! All kidding aside, this means I have a really useful set of tools that run off of battery power and really work well. I use them a lot and then they sit around for a while. The batteries aren't dead when I go back to use them weeks later, and they charge really fast, too.Summary: If you want a broad selection of quality battery tools, you can't beat Makita's offerings.

I purchased this planer last week here from Amazon, shipping was two business days with free super saver shipping. Here are my first impressions after using the tool for a couple days when stripping an old hardwood floor.1. This planer is pretty powerful and takes of the advertised depth fairly easily, I only needed 1/64 shaved of to take of the clear coat and stain from the hardwood and it did this very well.2. Eats up battery power very quickly when using non stop.. 10-15 minutes of continuous use max. When using occasionally this tool should last for half a day on charge.3. No LED light or any kind of battery indicator like some of the other Makita stuff.4. Creates a whole lot of wood chips but also shoots them out effectively without clogging up any of the parts (So far).5. Pretty decent stock blade on there, I hit a few little nails and it is still in fair condition after doing one bedroom. I can't seem to find any replacements on Amazon though.6. No clearly advertised dust bag available here on Amazon for this tool which is kind of lame. There are bags available but I don't know if they will fit since they aren't specified to fit this.7. Depth adjustment works well and creates a fairly smooth finish.8. One thing that impressed me was that this tool will not leave burn marks or start chopping up the wood if you go too quickly.( Oak floor) This tool can damage the wood but comparatively its not bad if you use it properly.9. Finish is pretty smooth but will still require a sander to get a proper furniture or floor grade smoothness.10. Ships with some weird piece that I haven't quite figured what it is for, looks like something to help with removing the blade.11. Also comes with a little tool for the blade bolts.I used this planer to strip a floor quickly and it did well. I plan to go over everything with my Lxt Sander to get a smooth finish than stain. I personally would recommend this tool if you have a use for a battery powered planer since not having a cord can be very convenient. I currently have 9 batteries so the fact that this planer chews through power isn't a big deal for me, but you may want to consider a corded one if you need continuous use.Overall its a pretty good tool, I haven't used any other hand planers so I have little to say when comparing brands but I already own many batteries in the LXT series so this was a no brainer when I needed a planer. If you have already invested in the Makita system and need a hand planer than this is the one. Personally I like how Makita has a wide variety of tools for one battery, even though these tools may be a little higher in price than dewalt or others, I found that I save money by being able to buy a wide variety of Tool only tools for less after investing initially in to the batteries. I also been using my Makitas for about a year now and haven't had any break yet or batteries dying on me.
