Robust material in strength & thickness plus it is multi layers for insulation. Magnets are very strong. 4 across the top & 3 down each side in my case for a rectangle. Recommendation to prep the material. It comes in a shrink wrap bag. Remove from bag. I placed cover in my clothes dryer with 4 wool balls tennis size. The balls help material to tumble & remove wrinkles. (I use for all laundry) Set heat for high. NOTE- very important: run 2min, take out & reshape place back in. Run 2 more mins, & repeat. Do not leave in dryer more than 2-3min. Reasons for short runs- The strong magnets will attach to the dryer steel drum & you don't want the material to get twisted in a knot. Also heating too long might damage material. This process removed almost all wrinkles due to packaging. The horizontal seams help to give cover strength & hangs smooth. Material has a nice sheen look. Note- my cover was 1" taller than my opening. I started at the bottom & worked up so the excess was at the top. Since my FP front has a metal bar across the top I simply creased edge into an L & the magnets attached. Perfect. Highly recommend! PS- went to Menards, they do not even sell them. Online is best.

My husband and I have been trying to find something to stop the draft coming in from our old fireplace. Even with the flue closed, cold air would still sneak in, making the room uncomfortable. This cover actually works. It completely blocks the draft, and the best part is that it blends in so well you can hardly tell it is there. We had considered getting glass doors, but this was so much cheaper and honestly looks way better than we expected. The magnets hold it securely in place, and we no longer feel that constant chill coming from the fireplace. If you are tired of dealing with drafts but do not want to spend a fortune on a permanent fix, this is a great solution. We are really happy with it.

Like the simplicity of thiandnjt fit perfectly, but as others have said it does still allow air around the edges to seep. But overall I feel like it helps on the draft through the fireplace doors

The size I ordered was very close to the opening of my fireplace. Inside that tiled opening was metal - with vents at the top and bottom. I do not have a glass door. My builder cheaped out with a metal mesh “curtain.” I might have ordered tiny bit smaller and still have enough exposed metal for the magnets to grab - but having read the reviews of others reporting that magnets were not at the very edge of the fabric screen, I decided to go for the size closest to my actual opening. Measuring from the inner edges of the tiled opening (not the metal inside the tile), I had a 45.5” wide by 36” tall opening. I ordered the 46” by 35” size since that was the closest to my actual opening. Side to side, the fit is close to perfect. The side magnets have a good grip to the inner metal. The top and bottom magnets hold well, too. The cover does leave an inch of uncovered metal at the bottom of the opening, but it does cover all the vent openings. The cover itself matches the specifications on the seller’s description. So far (3 days) the magnets are holding great but I have my doubts that these are powerful rare earth magnets. Fortunately, I have some very powerful magnets that I can use to supplement or completely replace if necessary. The cover definitely has eliminated heat loss through the fireplace - which was happening even though the damper is completely closed. I can tell that the furnace is not coming on nearly as much as it was before I hung the screen. The real test will start tonight when lows will drop to the teens and continue for three days. A couple of minutes to install, looks OK, low cost, and a lot faster than cutting foam core board or foam insulation board to the precise size.

I cannot believe it took me so long to find a product like this. So easy and effective! Ordered it for my parents who have a drafty chimney and a worn and torn fireplace door. This did the job! Looks nice and the magnets are super strong. This will help with their heating bills and correct the heating issues from their thermostat located on the subterranean level- causing upstairs to over heat. I'm amazed!

Honestly, I was skeptical that this could make that big of a difference, but I was wrong. It’s been a game changer! No cold drafts anymore! It’s not pretty, but it’s functional!

I did not realize how much cold air was coming into my living room through my fireplace until I got this cover. It is very well constructed and the magnets are strong! This cover stays in place perfectly and tools seconds to set it up. I was not paid for this review either. I saw someone talking online about using one of these and I bought one just to see if it would help keep my living room warmer and it absolutely does! I could tell witching hours that my HVAC was not kicking off near as often. I wish I would have bought this years ago!

My drafty fireplace problem is solved! I have a zero clearance, older fireplace, with an odd angled protruding top edge. No glass or door unit will fit. After reading others reviews, I ordered a slightly larger size (plus 1 inch each, H and W) to accommodate for the magnets being inset from the edges. Then I installed (super easy) it "side ways" (horizontal), to fit my specific dimensions. Well made, looks great, keeps the draft out, and it FITS! Very happy with this purchase.

The magnets are strong and I was able to insert it behind my fireplace screen for completely hidden look. Whether outside or inside the screen, the magnets held well and the size was perfect. As another reviewer mentioned the cold air will still escape around areas that don't have magnets and in my case, between the metal cover and the stonework. Let's face it, the cold air is gonna seep, it's not gonna miraculously stay inside the chimney or go back up! That being said, I would think this blanket helps somewhat. I also added thick foam behind the blanket inside the fireplace. Good temporary fix but I think I need a fireplace service co to tell me how to make this fireplace more airtight! In the spring! For now, not sorry I bought it

We bought this to keep out the cold when fireplace is not being used. One door glass on our fireplace broke so the cold would pour in when not in use even with the flue completely closed. The blanket works pretty good . The magnets are very strong but there could be a lot more of them. I am going to add at least 6 to eight more. A tiny gap will allow cold air to get out especially at the bottom. Other than that the blanket insulates well and makes the room more comfortable. I would buy again.

I taped cardboard to my decorator fireplace faceplate after I had it permanently shut off and then U covered it with this fireplace cover that fits perfectly and saves on my electrical heating bill and no draft. What a difference!

The sizing worked out perfectly. The magnets are fairly strong it's never going to fall off accidentally. It works well since the draft from the direct vent fireplace has greatly reduced. The blanket seems to have a decent R value since it's not cold to the touch even when the other side of the blanket is at 0°C.The main issue is that really they should have doubled the number of magnets or even trippled them or opted for some kind of continuous strip of magnetic material. Or they make it poofy between each magnet instead of tapering at the edges. That's because without a continuous strip the gaps between each magnets still leak a bit of air, mostly noticeable around the sides and not so much the top and bottom. Even when pulled taut to make the sides completely wrinkle free.
