We pulled a large maple against it's lean to fell it. It wasn't a serious lean and a more experienced forester probably would have laughed at us but we had a permanent tree stand in the likely path of the tree falling. We anchored a pulley to a nearby tree down low and put a strap on the maple up as high as we could reach with a ladder. We then placed the puller on a strap connected to another tree closer to the maple that we were cutting. We essentially created a big triangle. It only took a bit of figuring to get the puller working and we were putting tension on the tree in the direction we wanted. In our case, we had two people to cut down the tree. One was cutting the tree and one was running the puller. We still went very slowly to make sure we didn't lose control of the tree. We kept it under constant tension in the direction we wanted until it was going that direction all on it's own.The rope included is a braid with large peaks and valleys which correspond to the grooves on the pulley wheel. I have another rope I had intended to use but it has a very smooth exterior surface so I'm wondering if would work as well. In this case the included 100' rope was plenty for my use so I didn't need to find out how the other rope would work.

If you need a rope jack like this, you know why you need it. There are a couple better products on the professional market that include variable cam speed and more distance per pull, but zero of the professional forestry people I work with use those $1K products (around 8-10x the price of this product). This works. They will eventually break, get driven over by a truck, or twist so they no longer work. The tradeoffs for the ones that are heavier is that they are too heavy to carry in the forest. I wish these all had attachable accessories that would allow a fast winch to do the work. I don't know of any such device: the goal would be a hand-crank rope puller that could be used to manually tighten, but when there's a fast-pull-pull-pull moment in taking down a big tree, one could use an electric winch assist to keep the pressure on.

this is a must have when cutting trees where you have a limited place to fall the tree. will pull them where you need them to go if you understand how to notch and cut trees.

I have a regular steel cable come-along which I used to help guide leaning trees as I felled them, but I always liked the idea of this puller with it's long reach. Short cables on spools need to be reset frequently, but this puller will bring in 100 feet without interruption. There was a slight learning curve to put this in use because there has to be a certain amount of tension on the rope for it to catch in the winding mechanism, but this is easy to master and I found I could easily move from tree to tree and reposition the puller. It does put a lot of traction on the rope, and I haven't encountered any tree it wouldn't move. I plan to keep this in my truck because it would also do a great job pulling me out if I get stuck. Wouldn't go to work without it now.

I've never used a Rope come-a long before but I saw one in use when they were clearing some trees from my neighbors house and I had to have it. I dropped ass big ash tree that was overhanging my garage. This Pow'R puller with 3/4" rope is amazingly strong. I hooked it to my Kubota tractor and after I cranked it at tight as I could get it by hand, I pulled it even tighter with my tractor and the puller and the puller and rope held and the tree cleared to garage by 3-4 feet but. Before I hooked this rope, puller, and tractor to it, the tree was literally hanging halfway over the middle of the garage an leaning about 10-12 feet out of plumb. This puller and rope made my job a lot easier and even though I was very anxious before felling it, I was a lot less anxious when I saw how much pressure this puller and rope and actually I was able to pull the tress sideways enough that it cleared the garage by about 4'. This puller will take more than you can physically hand crank...and then some and, it did not slip once. I was pleasantly surprised (amazed actually), to see how much the rope and puller could take and it still functions perfectly after that intense pulling (abuse) the rope and puller took with my tractor.

I bought 2 of these for felling trees and have loved using them. Not as strong as a come-along so you won't use this for a stuck vehicle (which a come-along is a horrible choice for anyway), but so much easier to use in an application like tree work since the rope passes through and just lays on the ground, meaning it doesn't fill the spool and require anchoring and re-setting every 6 feet or so. The long rope that comes with it has held up just fine to pretty heavy use and I love that they give me such a long reach. I've used 2 simultaneously for pulling some rather monstrous back-leaners away from my house and they were perfect for the job. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the process for removing the rope once the tree is down. There are 2 levers that must be pulled and held so that the spool can reverse and the rope be pulled out. I have to hold the puller with one hand against my stomach, use a couple of fingers on that hand to pull the levers, then use the other hand to strip the rope out. I recommend wearing gloves so as not to pinch yourself. It takes a little practice to become efficient at doing this but it's not such a big deal as to detract a star from my rating.
